Description

M. E. BAILEY.
EJECTOB FUR CIGARETTE HOLDERS.
APPUCATION HLED MAY'27, 1919.
l fi fi l 0 Patented July 19, 1921.,
MILES E. BAILEY, OF OTTAWA, ONTARIO, CANADA.
EJECTOR FOR CIGARETTE-HOLDERS.
Application filed May 27,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known. that I, MILns E. BAILEY, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Ottawa, in the Province of Ontario, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ejectors for Cigarette-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in ejectors for cigarette holders, and the ob jects of the invention are to provide a simple and effective means by which a cigarette may be ejected from a cigarette holder, and such a device as will not interfere with the draft through the holder, and further one which will have means for retaining the holder in place in the pocket of the user.
It consists essentially of the improved construction hereinafter described in detail in the accompanying specification and drawings.
In the drawings Figure l is a perspective view showing my improved ejector in position on a cigarette holder.
Fig. 2 is a side view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the ejector.
Fig. 4 is a section on the line a2:z2 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a section on the line y-y of Fig. 2.
In the drawings, like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a cigarette holder of any desired type having a socket 10 into which the cigarette is adapted to be inserted.
B indicates my improved ejector including a longitudinally extending member 11 extending longitudinally on the holder and adapted to be reciprocated thereon, the limits of its reciprocation being conveninently determined by suitable means such as a stud or pin 12 engaging in a longi tudinal slot 13 on the holder A.
The member 11 is formed on one end with an ejecting finger 14: which is bent over to form a hook on the end of the member 11 and which extends in the socket 10, being formed with a laterally turned end 15 adapted to abut the end of the cigarette, the end 15 being disk-shaped as shown and of less diameter than the socket, whereby the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 19, 1921.
1919. Serial No. 300,232.
smoke may be drawn around the periphery thereof and between the same and the wall of the recess 10.
If desired the socket 10 may be formed with a groove 18 to accommodate the finger 14;.
Means are provided to hold the cigarette holder in the pocket of the user, and the means I have shown comprise a split ring 16 connected to the member 11 and having a spring finger 17 extending longitudinally on the holder A, and adapted to hold the sides of the pocket of the wearer between the finger and the holder, thereby constituting a spring clip. 7
It will be seen that in normal position of the device as shown in Fig. 2, when it is desired to eject a cigarette the ejector is moved longitudinally on the holder when the cigarette butt will be ejected.
For convenience in effecting this movement the stud or pin 12 may beextended on the outer side as well as on the inner side of the member 11.
As many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently widely different embodiments of my invention, within the scope of the claim, constructed without departing from the spirit or scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the accompanying specification and drawings, shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
lVhat I claim as my invention is In combination with a cigarette holder having a socket in the end thereof and pro vided with a groove in the wall of the socket, and a longitudinally extending groove in the outer wall of the holder, an ejector formed with an ejecting finger on one end bent to form a hook and slidably engage with the groove in the wall of the socket, the end of the finger being turned laterally and designed to abut the end of a cigarette, a stud carried by the ejector and coacting with the groove in the outer wall of the holder, a split ring engaging with the ejector, and a spring finger carried by the split ring.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of a witness.
MILES E. BAILEY.
