JOHN WILLIAM BELLAIRS, or MISHAWAKA, INDIANA.
TOY VEHICLE.
To ail whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN WV. BnLLAIRs, a citizen of the United States, residing at ll lishawaka, in the county of Saint Joseph and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Toy Vehicle, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to toy vehicles, one of its objects being to provide a structure of this character which affords a comfortable rest for the knee and leg of the user and which also provides a supplemental rest on which one of the knees can be placed while coasting.
A still further object is to provide a vehicle which can be adjusted readily to different heights, which is strong, attractive, and cannot readily get out of order.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
in the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawings- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device.
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view thereof on a reduced scale.
Fig. 3 is a rear elevation.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates the body of the vehicle preferably formed of a narrow board from one end of which depends a short block 2 supporting a longitudinal strip or reach 3 the front end of which is forked as shown at 4C. The rear end of the reach is curved upwardly and rearwardly as shown at 5, said curved portion being preferably concentric with the axis of a hinge 6 which is provided for connecting to the rear portion of the strip 1 a bolster 7 An opening 8 extends through the bolster and the stri or reach 3 projects through this opening, tiere being a longitudinal series of openings 9 within the curved part 5 any one of which is adapted to receive a locking bolt or pin 10 extending transversely through the bolster.
The bolster is supported by wheels 11 at Specification of Letters Patent.

the sides thereof and has laterally extending wings l2 constituting rests or supports, it being possible for the user to place one leg on one of these rests or supports while coasting.
Arranged in front of the strip 1 is a head 13 which can be suitably shaped and has oppositely extending grips 1 1-. A fork 15 extends upwardly and straddles'this head, the fork extending from a block 16 from which projects a downwardly extending fork 17 in which is mounted a front or steering wheel 18. A series of openings 19 is formed in the fork and any one of these openings is adapted to receive a holding pin 20 insertible transversely through the head.
Rearwardly extending tongues 21 are secured to the head 13 and are mounted on a pivot pin 22 which extends downwardly through the front portion of the strip 1 and through the fork 4, one of the tongues 21 being arranged within the fork while the other tongue is arranged between said fork and the strip 1.
Secured on the rear portion of the strip 1 is a cushion 23 which can be of any suitable material and of any shape desired, this cushion being adapted to support one of the legs or knees of the user while the vehicle is being propelled forwardly. Thus discomfort to the user is avoided.
In using the vehicle one knee is placed on the cushion 23, the two grips 14 are clasped in the hands of the user, and one foot is employed for propelling the vehicle for- After the vehicle has attained a desired momentum the leg which is free at the side of the vehicle can be placed on one of the rests 12 so that both feet will thus be held off the ground.
It is to be understood of course that the vehicle may be made of any shape desired. In order to adjust the vehicle vertically the pin 20 can be withdrawn and the block 16 shifted longitudinally to a desired position after which the pin is reinserted into enas many of the other features of this device can be applied to other types of toy vehicles already in use.
What is claimed is:
1. A toy vehicle including a body, a cushion upon the rear portion thereof, a bolster hingedly connected to the body, a reach fixed to and extending under the body, an adjustable connection between the reach and bolster for holding said bolster at angular adjustment relative to the body, a steering head, tongues extending therefrom and pivotally connected to the body and reach, a block adjustably connected to the head, and a Wheel connected to the block.
2. A toy Vehicle including a body, a steering head pivotally connected to the front end thereof, a supporting Wheel therefor, a bolster 'hingedly connected to the rear end of the body, supporting Wheels therefor,
means for holding the bolster atangular ad justment relative to the body, a knee supporting cushion upon the body, and a leg rest extending laterally from the bolster.
3. A toy vehicle including a body, a steering head, tongues extending rearwardly from the head, a bolster hingedly connected to the body, supporting Wheels connected to the bolster and steering head respectively, a reach bar adjustably and pivotally c011- nected to the bolster and pivotally connected to one of the tongues, and apivotal connec-v 7 tion between the tongues and the body.
