To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM GEoRGE internal combustion engines and the like.
More particularly'the invention relates to a throttle or cook incorporated in the fuel or induction pipe of an internal combustion engine whereby the supply of fuel thereto can be readily cut off and locked by means of a key and so render the engine unstartable except at the will of the owner or authorized user.
One object of the present invention is to fit the lockingattachment in such a way that should any attempt be made .to force the lock it will damage a vital part of the engine and renderit useless.
Another object is to arrange the device in a single self-contained casing.
In my invention I mount within the casing of the throttle valve or cock a lock of the Yale or any similar pattern, in such manner that the rotating bolt of the lock engages directly with the plug of the throttle valve or cock. I prefer to mount the throttle or cock in such position that any attempt to force the locked device would damage a vital part suchas the carburetor or induction pipe and still further prevent the engine being run. Such an arrangement providesa cheap and safe device attachable to any engine.
This invention is applied to the engine fuel in gas form, consists essentially of an air leak-proof throttle or cook in the fuel pipe leading from the carburetor to the engine, or incorporated in the carbureter itself, such throttle or cook being wholly inclosed in a metal casing and so arranged as to be controlled externally solely by means of a key turning in a lock of Yale-or similar pattern which is also securely housed in, and
protected by the said throttle casing. This casing is preferably embodied in a vital member such as the gas fuel pipe or the carbureter, the destruction of which would ensue upon any attempt to tamper with the locked device. The re volving bolt of fYale lock engages and rotates the throttle, so that by turning and removing thekey, the throttle can be closed and locked, and the engine rendered unstartable. 1 I l I The key is only removable when the throttle is closed, in which position it is locked by such removal, the said key forming the sole means whereby the throttle can be unlocked and engine restarted. By this arrangement the key cannot be lost or mislaid, and is always on hand when it is desired to lock up the fuel supply and render the engine unstartable. But in order that my invention may be more clearly understood, reference will be made to the draw ings which accompany and form part of this specification.

Fig. 3 is a plan of .the throttle head, showing the slot in which the Yale revolving bolt engages and the open and closed notches with which the spring stop registers.
In Fig. 1, 10 is a cylindrical throttle revolving in the throttle casing 33, and provided with an air-tight joint 4, working in a suitable seat turned in the casing. The induction pipe 5-5 is recessed and soldered into each end of the casing 3-3, and the throttle 10 carries an orifice 2, of the same bore as'the induction pipe, which can be turned vertically to form a continuous passage, or laterally to close the pipe and shut ofl the gas supply. 6'is a circular metal disk in which is securely mounted a Yale lock 7 in such position that the revolving bolt 8 carrying the key 9 is central with the throttle 10. The disk 6 is recessed into the end of the casing 3 and permanently secured by pins 17-17 thus sealing the casing 33. Bolt 8 of the lock has a projecting tongue 12 engaging in a slot 15 in the head of the throttle so that the twoare coupled and turn in unison.
