Description

H. R. YARDLEY. HOLDER FOR LIGHTING EIXTURESDL APPLICATION FILED Aue.2|. 1919.
Patented July 112, 1921;.
UNHTSEE STATEfi HORACE R. YARDLEY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR T0 3. YJELLIAMSQN 85 CO., A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS.
HOLDER FOR LIGHTING-FIXTURES.
Application filed August 21, 1919.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
' is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a holder for lighting fixtures which will provide ample and adequate ventilating means, in order that excessive heat may find a sufficient and quick outlet.
My invention consists of the details of construction hereinafter set forth, pointed out in my claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 shows a side elevation view of my holder, a part of the same being broken away to better show the parts.
Fig. 2 shows a plan view of my holder.
Figv 3 shows an inverted plan view of the same.
Fig. 4 shows an enlarged detail View, partially in section, of a part of my holder, and aglobe attached thereto.
Similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the entire description.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, the reference numeral 10 is used to indicate the cap portion of my holder, preferably constructed of metal, and provided with a centrally located orifice 11 in its top to receive a chain, or other hanger (not shown).
The lower extremity of the cap (which is preferably circular in conformation) is flared, as shown, to provide a flange 12. A ring 1.3, having an upwardly and inwardly turned portion 14, is secured, in spaced relation, to the cap 10, by means of rivets 15, or the like, and said ring is also provided with means 16, to secure it to a globe, or fixture 17. In the upper part of the cap, I have provided a plurality of orifices 18 which provide an outlet for the heat which collects in the cap itself.
By the construction shown and described Specification of Letters Eetent. Patented July 12, 1921.,
Serial No. 318,844.
the globe, or fixture, has a spaced relation to the cap, as has also the ring 13, thus providing all around the periphery of the globe or fixture and leading outside the cap 10, and such heat as goes directly upward into the cap, has an outlet through the orifices 18. it is obvious my construction provides the maximum amount of ventilation for a fixture, but in such a manner as to be concealed so as not to detract from the beauty of the design of the holder.
In my drawings and description, I have set forth a convenient and desirable construction to illustrate my invention, but it is apparent the details may vary without changing my invention which comprises a ring, a cap and a fixture, in spaced relation to each other to provide the ventilation as set forth.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is: V
1. A holder for lighting fixtures comprising a cap flared at its lower extremity a ring, means to secure said cap and ring in spaced relation, and a globe secured in spa ed relation to said cap and ring to provide a continuous ventilating space betwee: the inner periphery of the upper opening in the globe and the base of the holder, and a continuous ventilating space between the inner surface of the ring and the outer surface of the lower part of the cap.
2. A holder for lighting fixtures comprising a cap, a ring, and a globe se ured in spaced relation to each other to provide a continuous ventilating space between the inner periphery of the upper opening in the globe and the base of the holder, and a continuous ventilating space between the inner surface of the ring and the outer sur of the lower part of the cap, and orifices in the upper portion of the up.
In testimony whereof I have signed the foregoing specification.
HORACE R. YABDLEY.
