Be it known that 1, WILLIAM Dmrnrr- BARGH, a citizen-of the United States, res1ding at Montpelier, in the county of Black'- ford and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and usefulv Improvements 1n Locking Devices for Motor-Cars, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improve ments in locking means for internal combustion engines, having reference especially to means of the kind described: for the effectual capable of being set at position to shut off the fuel supply, a holding means to-engage and hold the switch and the valve at the set positions, a casementto inclose thesaid holding means, switch and'valve parts, and
a closure plate for the easement and lock therefor. I
The objects of my invention are accomplished by, and the preferred form of embodiment of my invention is shown in thenew construction combination and arrangement of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings and described in the following specification. The inventionis defined in the appended claims.
The several parts of my invention are identified by suitable charactersofreference applied thereto in the different views in the drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a frontal view of my improved locking device in its standardized form as the same appears disposed at position on the dash board of any standard gasolene motor car.
Fig. 2 is a side view, as seen in the direction indicated by the arrow 2 in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged view of the casement, the door thereof being at open position, to show the relative positions of the several operative parts.
Fig. 4 is a sectional top plan view taken on the line 4-4 in Fig. 3.

The casement 1 in which the operative parts of my invention are inclosed may be made of aluminum and may be secured to the dash board A by screws or bolts passed through the holes 2. Extending from an opening in the lower side of the easement, is a tubular casing 3 of suitable length at whose bottom is'arranged a housing 4. Retained-in thishousing-is a gate type valve 5 provided with standard union joint connections 6 and by which it may readily be connected into the fuel gasolene line pipe B common to all motor cars. Extending upwardly from the valve gate 5 of the said valve is a stem 7 that'is passed verticallythrough' the casement and which has bearing in an openingprovided therefor in the top side of said casement. Secured on the top of'said valve stemis the valve stem head 8; Disposed in the; opposite side of the easement and in alinement with the valve stem, is a member designated as a switch bar 9 and which is provided with the switch-bar-head 10. This switch bar is "j ournaled in suitable fiber bearings I1 and 12 suitably secured to the casement. Mounted-on the fiber plate 13 that is'secured to the casingis a-terminal plate 14 that is provided with terminals from which extend the insulated electric wires'C and D forming part of the electric circuit of the ignition system common to all gasolene motor cars. Adapted to establish contact with the studs 14 of the terminal plate 14 when the switch bar 9 is moved is the arm 9 that is securedto the said bar 9. Secured to the switch'bar 9 is a wheel 15 providedwith a recess 15: Secured to the valve stem 7 is a wheel l6provided with a recess having the heads 16 and 16". The holding means whose function is to hold the wheels 15' and. 16 against movement and which engages the recesses of these wheels in the manner as shown in Fig. 4 when the switch bar and valve stem are at position with the electric circuit open and the fuel supply shut off, consists of a pair of flat metal bars 17 each being hinged or pivoted at its lower portion on a suitable stud 18. A spring 19 having its ends connected to the ends of these bars urges them to the expanded position shown in Fig. 3, their upper ends being slidingly retained in a suitably slotted guide bar 20 connected to the easement. A central stud 21 serves to limit the travel of these bars when they are drawn together and free from engagement with the wheels 15 an d 16. To

The distance through which the valve stem head 8 is moved, is limited by the recess head 16 which meets the arm 22 disposed in the position shown. .The switch and valve having thus been set so that the circuit is closed and the fuelsupply line is open, the hinged (10101 1 of the casement,

By the use of a combination lock device which forms a part of the door lock mechanism, the matter of opening the door is one easy-to control by the car owner exclusively, .or by those only which the lock may be operated and ,the door opened.
