stance, and is connected withna central hubV by straight arms extending from the hub of the disk to the parts of the same, whichV have the longest radii. Owing to this arrangement the valve disk as a whole is carried by arms, the yielding capacity of which is considerably increased by their great length, which results in the valve operating in a particularly suitable manner.
Figures 1 and 2 in the accompanying drawing are a longitudinal section and a side view respectively of a valve arranged in accordance with this invention.
In the valve shown in the drawing the valve disk l is rectangular with' rounded corners. The short side parts of the valve body are connected with the central part or hub 3 by arms 2, the said hub 3 being fixed to the casing t by means of a screw bolt 5 with nuts 6 and a washer 7 being located between the hub and the said casing.
To the valve disk l a disk 8 of leather or the like is lixed by means of rivets, the shape of which disk 8 corresponds to the shape of the valve disk. Packing may, however, be provided on the valve seat. The illustrated valve is adapted to serve as an air supply valve in an internal combustion engine, so that air is sucked through openings 9 provided in the valve casing, passes through openings 10 and the space between the opened valve disk and the seat both at the outer and inner edgesV of the said disk. According tothe drawings the valve. disk 1 is guided by pins 11 fixed inthe valve casing and passed through openingsprovided Patented July 5, 1921.
in the arms 2. The valve disk may, however, be guided in any other suitable'manner. The Vspringy arms2 permit the valve to be opened and shut, after the air'has entered the engine, Vor aid in shutting the4 same.
Owing to the long, springy arms 2, by which the -valve disk is carried at itsl short side parts, the valve disk willV yield easily and consequently opens easily. While the valve disk is being opened, also the long side parts of the valve disk move substantially parallelly to themselves, so that the valve disk, in spite of its elongated shape, is',
opened substantially uniformly all around. The length of the stroke Voi" the valve disk during the opening operation may be increased, so that the size of the valve disk Vmay be correspondingly reduced for the admitting of the same air quantity, without any hissing sound being produced in the.
valve during the entrance of the air.
The valve disk is preferably stamped from ed owing to the straight shape of the arms 2. Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let- OLOF OHLSSON.
