NON-CORROSVE ATTACHMENT FOR CONTAINERS.

Be it known that l, Bonner D. Mnnnox, major, Medical Dept., United States Army, a citizen of the United States, stationed at Vashington, District of Columbia, have invented an Improvement in Nonorrosive Attachments for Containers, of which the following is a specification.
The invention described herein may be used by the Government', or any of its olii cers or employees in prosecution oi work for the Government, or by any other person in the United States, without payment of any royalty thereon.
This invention has reference to containers for substances or compounds which are liable to injury by oxidation or from like causes when coming in contact with the material of the container, and has for one of its objects to provide 'a simply constructed attachment of noncorrosive substance which may be applied to the discharge of the container and protects the contents from contact with material of the container.
Another object of the invention is to pro- Y vide an attachment of a noncorrosive sub* stance including a tubular portion within the discharge of the container and having a lateral flange bearing over the same, and a cap for the discharge having a. lining of noncorrosive substance bearing upon the flange portion.
Another object of the invention is to provide a container having tubular discharge, with a lining for the discharge, and a closure cap for the discharge adapted to bear over the lining and engaging the discharge independently of the lining.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certa-in novel features oii construction as hereinafter shown and described.
Many containers having discharge openings or nozzles are constructed from matcrial liable to injuriously affect the contents when exposed to the air and in contact with the container material, and to protect the contents of the container from such deterioration the improved attachment which is the subject matter of the present application has been designed.
The attachment may be adapted without material structural change to containers of various forms and to containers for various substances or compounds, but is more parl ticularly applicable to the collapsible tubes for tooth paste and like substances, and for the purpose ot illustration is shown applied to device of this character, and in the drawings thus employed,

The improved attachment comprises a tubular member or shell l0 having a lateral iiange llat one end as shown inA Fig. 2. This is the form in which the shell will be initially produced, and is constructed of noncorrosive material such as Celluloid or the like. A portion of the body of the container is represented at 12 and the nozzle or discharge at 13, the latter being preferably externally threaded, as represented at 14. The threads do not extend to the top of the nozzle thus leaving a blank space of reduced diameter to receive the down turned outer portion ot the flange il ot the shell. l
The outer tace of the downturned flange portion of the lining is disposed wholly within the reduced portion of the discharge so that no portion of the iiange projects beyond the unreduced portion, the object will be hereafter explained.
They interior of the nozzle i3 is also preterahly slightly tapered inwardly as shown in Fig. l and after the shell l0 is inserted in the nozzle with its iiange 1l in place over the outer edge of the nozzle, the inner end of the tubular shell is swaged outwardly by a suitable implement to cause the side walls of the shell to closely engage the tapered inner walls of the nozzle and the inner terminal of the shell to be expanded in ila-nge like form over the body of the container .at its juncture with the nozzle as shown at l5. By this means the shell is rigidly attached to the nozzle and completely covers and protects the contents of the container material during the discharge.
The oxidation occurs just where the paste or other substance passes from the nozzle,- and by forming the shell with its flange 11 bearing entirely over .the outer rim of the ,threads 14 of the nozzle.
