Description

J. TABER.
WashingfMachnes.
Patented Apri 29, 1873.`
AUN:|:TE;D STATES PATENT OFFICE.
J 'OHNLI TABER, OF SOUTH WOLFBOROUGH, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
IMPROVEMENT IN4 WASHING-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,296, dated Ap1il29,1873; application tiled.
April '1, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN TABER, of South Wolf boron gh, in the county of Carroll and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Washer and Wringer; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a washingmachine which may also be used as a clotheswringer, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 a transverse verticalsection, of my machine.
A represents the bed or base of my machine, to be attached to the wash-tub in any suitable manner. From this bed or base rise two standards, B B, in which the journals of a large longitudinally-fluted roller, G, have their bearings. This roller C is rotated by means of a crank, D, attached to or forming part of one of its journals. The upper ends of the standards B B are slotted vertically above the journals of the roller C, and in each standardris placed `a stud or journal, a., of an L-shapedbar, G,
these. two bars being connected at their angles by a rod, H, and have a series of small rollers, b b, between them, as shown. The studs or journals a a of the bars G G rest in the bottom of the slots in the standards and have springs d d connecting them with stationary studs e e on the standards, thereby holding the small rollers b b close to the large iuted roller (l, and at the same time allows of the entire rollerframe thus formed rocking on its journals as the clothes are passing through. This rocking roller-frame may be located below as well as above the fluted roller C. To the edges of the standards B B are attached guides l I to prevent the clothes from getting in between the standards and the ends of the rollers.
This machine may be used both for washing and wringing clothes.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the base A, standards B B with guides I I, tluted roller G, rocking `frame G H, rollers b b, and springs d d, all
substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as myown I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN TABER.
