W. S. ANDRYSIAK. VEGETABLE CRUSHER. APPLICATION FILED NOV. I3, 1919.

22 1'2 i 22 J y 1 5 UNITEDSTATES PATENT OFFICE.
'WLADYSLAW S. ANDRYSIAK, OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA.
VEGETABLE-CRUSHER.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that W LADYSLAW S. ANDRY- suit, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at South Bend, in the county of St. Joseph and State of Indiana, has invented new and useful Improvements in Vegetable-Crushers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is to provide a device suitable for household use by means of which vegetables for use in various culinary operations may be readily crushed and sliced and thus reduced to amore or less comminuted form, the arrangement of the parts being such as to insure holding the vegetables or objects in proper operative relation with the knives without using the hand or other supplemental means in that connection, and with these objects in view the invention consists in a construction and combination of parts of which a preferred embodiment is shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure l is a sectional view of the apparatus.
Fig. 2 is a plan view as indicated by the direction line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view of the slicer disk.
Fig. 1 is a detail sectional view of the connection between the slicer disk and the spindle.
Fig. 5 is an end view of the guide wings.
The apparatus consists essentially of a cylindrical receptacle 10 within which is arranged a central sleeve bearing 11 having mounted therein a spindle 12 carrying a slicer disk 13 which is held in a plane adjacent to the lower edge of the receptacle and forms the bottom thereof, the connection between the spindle and the disk bein such that lateral motion may be communicated from the former to the latter, as for example as shown in detail in Fig. 4 wherein the lower end of the spindle is threaded to engage a threaded socket 14 in an enlargement or hub 15 of the disk, a lock screw 16 being inserted through the lower end of the socket to secure said parts in their adjusted relations, it being obvious that the plane of the disk with relation to that of the lower edge of the receptacle may be varied by the adjustment of Specification of Letters Patent. Patented J 21 1921 Application filed November 13, 1919.
Serial No. 337,835.
Fitted upon the spindle at its upper end is a suitable operating means such as a crank 17, and the disk is provided with a plurality of outlet slots 18, radially arranged and having disposed adjacent thereto beveled seats 19 upon which are mounted slic ng knives 20 of which the cutting edges pro ect slightly above the upper surface of the disk to engage objects arranged in the receptacle. The knives or blades may be secured in place in any suitable manner as by means of screws 21. I
Radiating from the bearing 11 are wings 20 which extend to the wall of the receptacle and serve to support the latter which is se'cured in place to the outer edges of the wings by screws 22 or the equivalents thereof, and said wings are provided with convexed cam bearing surfaces 23 facing in the direction in which the disk is turned so that vegetables or fruit or other objects placed in the receptacle are caused by the rotation of the disk to crowd under said cam surfaces which thus hold them pressed downward and in position for engagement by the knives or blades carried by the disk. In other words the inclination of the bearing surfaces of the wings is such as to cause a downward pressure upon the contents of the receptacle as the said contents tend to move in the direction of movement of the disk. to the end that downward pressure is applied to the contents of the receptacle to induce a steady feeding movement thereof toward the plane of the disk as the slicing or reducinc; operation progresses.
Moreover as a means of supporting the device for convenient attachment to a table or the like the casting comprising the sleeve bearing 11 and the bearing wings 20, as more particularly shown in Fig. 2, may be extended between the attached outwardly turned edges 24 of the wall of the receptacle to provide a bracket 25 having at its lower end a clamp 26 fitted with a thumb bolt 27. The arrangement of the device upon a table or similar support is indicated in Fig. 1 wherein the table is shown in dotted lines at 28.
In the operation of the apparatus it is merely necessary to deposit the vegetables or fruit to be ground or crushed or sliced in the receptacle and rotate the disk by means of the crank or handle 17, the downsaid wings, an operating spindle mounted 10 in said sleeve and provided at its upper end with an operating handle, and a slicer disk secured to the lower end of said spindle and forming the bottomvof the receptacle.
In testimony whereof he afiixes his signa- 15 ture.
WVLADYSLAW S. ANDRYSIAK.
