To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALLAOE S. WARNooir, citizen of the United States; residing at Chicago, in the county of Cool: and frltate of illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Printing-Plate Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description.

In the preferred embodiment of the in vention the printing plate foundation, such as the flat bed of a pre'ssor a cylindrical form cylinder, is provided with cylindrical holes therein each having an annular enlargement below the work supporting face of the foundationto form a retaining shoulder. A carrier is employed thatis prefers ably a cylindrical shell or a diameter permitting it to bepassed down into any-of said holes. An adjusting hand operated rack may have" its teeth brought into engagement with the teeth 19 of the nut. By-moving the hand rack in one direction the nut is turned to move the jaw against the work. By reversing the movement of the hand rack the jaw iswithdrawnfrom the work.

It -will be observed that the cylindrical shells may readily beturned within the holes that receive them to vcause the jaws to face selected directions whereby the'workmay 'be held upon the foundation in any selected position. The assembly of the plate holders with the foundation is quickly effected and firmly maintained, it being impossible for the holders to fall out of place if the mechanism for assembling them with the foundas tion has been properly operated.

The combination with a printing foundation formed with cylindrical holes therein; of a carrier in the form of a cylindrical shell of a diameter permitting it to be passed down into any of said holes; a clamping jaw located above said shell and printing foundation and having an inward extension pivoted to and within the shell; a threaded rod mounted upon and extending across said shell; and a jaw adjusting nut upon said rod and formed with an annular groove in which the jaw structure is received whereby the jaw is moved back and forth accordin to the direction in which the nut is turne 6. The combination with a printing foundation formed with cylindrical holes therein; of a carrier in the form of a cylindrical shell of a diameter permitting it to be passed down into any of said holes; a clamping jaw upon said shell and at its outer end; and a jaw actuating device upon said shell.
7 The combination with a printing foundation formed with holes therein each enlarged below the foundation to form a retaining shoulder; of a carrier in the form of a shell of a size permitting it to be passed down into any of said holes; a lever upon the shell and engageable beneath said retaining shoulder to hold the shell and foundation together; a clamping jaw upon said shell and at its outer end; and a jaw actuating device upon said shell.
8. The combination with a printing foundation formed with holes therein; of a carrier in the form of a shell of a size permitting it to be passed down into. any of said holes; a lever upon the shell and engageable with the foundation to hold the shell and foundation together; a clamping jaw upon said shell and at its outer end; and a jaw actuating device upon said shell.
9. The combination with a printing foundation formed with cylindrical holes therein; of a carrier in the form of a cylindrical shell of a diameter permitting it to be passed down into any of said holes; a detaining element upon the shell and engageable with the foundation to hold the shell and foundation in assembly; a clamping jaw upon said shell and at its outer end; and a jaw actuating device upon said shell.
