Description

C. H. KRENGEL.
PEENING TOOL FOR HARNESS MAKERS. APPLICATiON FILED D20. 6, 1919.
1,882,093. I Patented June 21, 1921.
UNITED STATES CHARLES H. KRENGEL, F TWIN FALLS, IDAHO.
resume-moor, non HARNESS-MAKERS.
Application filed December 6, 1919. Serial No. 342,875.
7 To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES H. KRnNenL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Twin Falls, in the county of Twin Falls and State of Idaho, have invented certain. new and useful Improvements in PeeningTools for Harness-Makers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in hammers, and has relation more particularly to a device of this general character particularly designed and adapted for use by a harness maker; and it'is an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general character which may be employed with facility and convenience in shaping the leather, and particularly shaping the leather around the buckles or other hardware pertaining to harness or saddlery.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general character which may be employed for rubbing and finishing in lieu of the tool now employed and known as a slicker.-
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved hammer whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive, and otherwise more convenientand advantageous for use, as will be herein after more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, Iwill now proceed to describe th same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a hammer constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention; and
Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation of the device as herein embodied, the coacting handle member being shown in fragment.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, my improved hammer embodies a head H provided with an eye 1, in which is engaged in a conventional manner, a'handle member M, preferably of wood.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 21, 1921.
The head H is arranged to one side of the eye 1, and has its free end portion enlarged and terminating in a flat face whereby the same may be conveniently, employed for driving tacks or other operations in connection with harness making or the like wherever a blow or impact is required.
Extending. from the opposite side of the eye 1 and in a direction away from the head H is a bladeor peen 2 gradually increasing in width toward its outer or free end, and which is slightly curved longitudinally. The free end portion of the blade or peen is rolled back or returned, as at 3, to afford a rounded or cylindrical edge, which is of particular advantage in rubbing or finishing the work, and also of advantage in fitting leather around buckles or other hardware pertaining to harness or saddlery. The rounded or cylindrical edge 3 overlies the inner or concaved face of the blade or peen 2 and extends in a direction transverse of said blade or peen 2 and entirely thereacross.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a hammer con- .inafter claimed.
ll claim:
As a new article of manufacture, an implement for a harness maker including an elongated peen curved longitudinally, the outer en d portion of the peen having a cylindrical edge overlying the concaved face of the pcen and extending in a direction transverse to the peen and entirely thereacross, said cylindrical edge offering n-o obstruction to the convex face of the peen.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my CHARLES H. KRENGEL.
