UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
'I'USTTLNl ISAAC SHARP, OF WALLACE, MISSOURI.
Specieaton of Letters Patent. p Patented Jun@ 21, 1921.
Application filed April 29, 1920. Serial No. 377,711.
T o all whom t may concern Be it known that I, JUSTIN ISAAC SHARP, a citizen of the United States, residence at Vallace, Missouri, have invented a Combination Slip-Over Spoke End, Tenon, and
F elly Protector, of which the following is a l specification.
My invention relates to combination terrule and tenon; and the objects of which are to save material and labor in replacing broken spokes in wooden wheels.
I attain these objects by the parts illus trated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l, is a View in perspective of the parts assembled, and placed in the correct position on the fellies for use; Fig. 2, a vertical section of the assembled parts, cut through the center; Fig. 3, a vertical section cut through the ellies, showing the position of ferrule applied to same; Fig. 4, a view in perspective showing the parts disassembled, and placed in their relative position for assembling.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The ferrule which slips over spoke end, and the tenon which fits into the fellies, constitute the parts required. 'Ihe object of ferrule and tenon being made separate, is so that tenon can be made of different sizes to lit any size fellies.
The ferrule l, fits over spoke end, and is applied to fellies, and is made with pointed flanges at side which turn down to protect fellies, it is also provided with a hole in bottom, which shaft of tenon 2, to pass through into fellies, the tenon 2, is provided with flange at top oi same size as inside of ferrule, and lower end of shaft is split in order that a wooden or metal wedge can be driven into same, for the purpose of spreading it so that it will be perfectly tight and secure in the fellies, thus securing the spoke to fellies in a substantial manner. i
In a device of the kind described, a split metal tenon member having a disk like head, a ferrule adapted to slip over the tenon to inclose the head and receive the end, and the spoke, to connect the tenon to the spoke, said errule having tangs at its closed end to embrace the sides of a felly when the device is in use.
JUSTIN ISAAC SHARP.
