Be it known that I, GUY G. SrAiNns, a citizen of the United States, residino` at Albion, in the county of Orleans and btate of New York, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Barrel-Hoop-Repair Devices; and l do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ot' the invention, such as will. enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

' This invention relates to an improved repair device for use in repairing hoops which have come apart or become broken, and one object oi the invention is to provide a hoop repairing device so constructed that it may be supported vertically upon a barrel and the hoop to be repaired held in engagement with an anvil at the upper end of the standard forming part of the devicej thus permitting nails to be driven through the overlapping portions of the hoops and crimped against the anvil.

Another object of the invention is to so construct this device that the lower portion of the barrel may be engaged by clips at the base of the standard and the upper portion of the barrel by a clamp carried by the standard and passing through a slot extending longitudinally ot the standard to permit of adjustment according to the height of the barrels.

Another object of the invention is to so construct this device that it will be simple in construction and strong and durable and adapted for connection with a barrel of a conventional construction of approximately a standard size.

This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

This improved hoop repairing device is provided with a standard 1 which is formed of wood and is of sufficient height to extend above the upper end of the barrel 2 with Specification of Letters Patent.

which the device is to be connected. This standard carries a block 3 at its lower end for engaging the side ot' the barrel adjacent its lower end and holding the lower portion of the standard in spaced relation to the barrel. Spacing blocks t are provided adjacent the sides of the standards ior engaging the barrel adjacent its upper end and it will thus be seen that the device may have lirm engagement with the side of the barrel when connected therewith as shown in Fig. 3. ln order to connect the standard with the barrel, there has been provided upper and lower clamps for engaging the upper and lower ends of the barrel. The lower clamps or hooks are *formed ot strong metal and are secured to the lower end portion of the standard. These barrel engaging hooks eX- tend beyond the rear or inner iace ot the standard and. will engage the barrel 'as shown in Fig. 3 with the barrel fitting between the bills 5 of these hooks and the spacing block 3. The clamp G for engaging the upper portion ot the barrel, is in the form of a bolt which extends through a longitudinally eX- tending slot 7 formed in the upper portion of the standard above the bloclr 4;. rlhis bolt or clamp G is bent adjacent its head so that an arm 8 is provided which will extend downwardly with the head of the bolt engaging the barrel. rFhe bolt may have movement longitudinally of the standard in the slot 7 and therefore the upper clam*L may be moved vertically of the standard according to the height ot the barrel. After the upper clamp has been moved to properly engage the barrel, the wing-nut 9 will be tightened thus drawing the upper clamp into tight engagement with the barrel. and securely holding the standard in engagement with the barrel.

W7 hen the overlapping end portions of a barrel hoop become disconnected or when a barrel hoop becomes broken it is necessary to place the end portions in overlapping relation and then drive securing nails through tl e overlapping end portions of the hoop. i shoe or anvil 10 has therefore been placed upon the upper end portion of the standard, the shoe or anvil being provided with a longitudinally curved upper face and having a depending side flange ll through which securing bolts 12 are passed.
