To all whom it man concern:
Be it known that l, ALONZO LOGKARD, a citizen of the United States residing e at Massillon, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grain-Sieves, of which the following is a s ecication.
This invention re ates'to the grain screens for threshing machines, fanning mills, and like types of machines,l and has for one of its objects to provide a simply constructed device of this character comprising superimposed slidably disposed members each with a plurality of apertures relatively small and a plurality of apertures relatively large, so that when the screen members are adjusted to one position all of the smaller apertures will register and present a surface with all of the apertures of uniformly small size, and when adjusted to another posit-ion, t-he major portion of the smaller apertures will register and all of the larger apertures will likewise register.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claim, and in the drawings illustraf tive of the preferred embodiment of the invention,
Figure 1 is a top plan view with the coacting screen members so arranged that the smaller apertures of both screen members register and the larger apertures of one screen member are disposed opposite certain of the smaller apertures of the other screen member.
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view with the screen members so arranged that the major portion of the smaller apertures of both screens register and the larger apertures of both screens are likewise arranged in regis* tering position.
` Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
The improved device comprises coacting screen members 10 and 11 superimposed, and formed of sheet metal of the usual grade and provided with the usual uniformly sized relatively small apertures 12 and 13 and a plurality of relatively large apertures 14 and 15. The apertures 12 and 13 are uniformly spaced so that they register when the screen members are disposed in one position, as shown in Fig. 1. The larger apertures are formed by cutting out cert-ain of ithe lands or material between the smaller Specication of Letters Patent.

apertures at regular intervals, the center of each larger aperture being the center of one of the smaller apertures, and the margins of the larger apertures cutting `substantially across the centers of the surrounding smaller apertures, Fig. 1.
The larger apertures are uniformly spaced as showlrso that when the movable screen member :is adjusted to one position, the larger apertureswill be disposed opposite certain of the smaller apertures of the other as illustrated more clearly in or stationary screen member, hence the' smaller apertures only will be presented to the material flowing thereover; and then when the movable screen member is adjusted to its other position, the larger apertures of both screen members will be disposed in registering position, and present a plurality of relatively large openings or apertures entirely through both screen members, while at the same time the smaller apertures lilling the major area of the screen members will still remain in registering position.
There is thus provided a simply constructed device wherein a screen having uniformly spaced relatively small apertures is provided, and a screen having a relatively large number of small apertures and a relatively small number of larger apertures commingled with the smaller apertures. i
Thus when fine material is to be sci-eened, the screen members will be so arranged that small apertures only are presented, and when coarser material is to be screened, the combined large and small apertures will be presented.
The superimposed screen members may be supported and operated in any suitable manner, but for the purpose of illustration a suitable frame 16 is provided to which the screen member 10 is secured in any suitable manner and with combined supporting and material guiding cleats 17 attachedto the screen above the side rails of the frame.
The other screen member 11 is also attached to a frame 18 fitted within the outer frame 16 and shorter than the same so that it can be moved endwise a suflicient distance to provide for the change of position of the screen members as before described. The inner frame 18 is povided with a central rail 19 and the outer frame 16 provided with corner plates 2O to slidably support the inner frame 18.

The improved device is simple in construction, can. be inexpensively manufactured and adapted without material structural change, Vto screens having various sizes of apertures and to screens employed in any ofthe various machines using screens for any purpose., Y .Y v
The preferred embodiment of thevinvention is disclosed in the drawings and set forth in the specications, but it Will be understood that any' modification Within the scope'of the claim may be made in the construction Without departing from the principle of the invention or sacriicifng any of its advantages.
