THOMAS GORRELL, OF WARREN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO GEORGE J. HAMPSON, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN SIZING COMPOUNDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,147, dated April 22, 1873; application filed April 12, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THoMAs GORRELL, of Warren, in the county of Bristol and State of Rhode Island, have invented a certain Oompound called Sizing, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to that class of compounds used for sizing yarns previous to their being woven and it consists in a composition formed by mixing together tallow, salt, soap, bees-wax,isin glass, molasses, and flour, in substantially the following proportions:
For one hundred (100) pounds of the com position, ten (10) pounds of tallow; ten (10) pounds of salt ten (10) pounds of soap; molasses, four (4) pounds; beeswax, one (1) pound; isinglass, one (1) pound; and sixty-four (64) pounds of flour; to which a sufficient amount of water is to be added to form the whole into a paste of any desired consistency.
In applying this sizing to yarns, take of the composition above described twenty (20) pounds, and mix it with one hundred (100) pounds of starch, properly saturate the whole, and place it in the sizing-box, through which the yarn is passed; and it will be found to have given to it a smooth, even surface, thus preparing it for weaving to better advantage than any sizing with which I am acquainted.
