OSCAR LOEW, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO JOHN M. PENDLETON, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN BLEACHING DARK SOAPS AND FOOTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 104,470, dated J (me 21, 1870.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OsoAR Lonw, of New York city, in the State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Method of Bleaching Foots or Dark Soaps of any kind, of which the following is a specification:
The dark soaps or foots are first dissolved in warm water, which should contain an excess of alkali. I then add from fifteen to thirty per cent. of a saturated solution of chloride of soda, or an equivalent of other chlorides, properly known as the hypochlorites of the alkaline oxides. A gentle heat is then applied to the mixture, and the parts thoroughly commingled by stirring, till the darkbody becomes changed to the color desired, when it is finished as is usual in finishing soaps.
