Mounted within the recess 32. formed by the collar 29 and body 30, is a suitable piston 33, the head 34 being held in contact with the plate or diaphragm 28 by a coiled spring 35 positioned between theiinderside of the head 34 and the wall of the body 30 'surrounding one end ofthe opening;r 31.
The outer end of the body 30 in line with the opening 31 therethrough is chainbered, said chamber being closed by a' plug `36, chambered as at 37, and in said chamber 37 is adapted to reciprocate atapered valve 33 having adjustable connection with the stem 33 of the piston. The valve 38 is adapted for controlling;` the communication between the interior of the channel 31 and the cham ber 37, and the adjustment of the valve relatively to the piston controls theoperation of the valve in accordance with different temperatures of thefluid 25. The body 30 is provided with a lateral fuel feed' opening 39 communicating at one end with the channel land with which is connected a pipe 40 leading from a T 41 in the fuel feed pipe 6, thus fuel is fed through the pipe 40 into the channel 31. 26 of the generator pipe 15 communicates with the chamber 37 through intersecting channels 41,'and thus the flow of fuel from the pipe 40 into the pipe 26 is controlled by the operation of the valve 38 which is actuated in accordance with the temperature of the fluid 25 in the tube 24, which is in The terminal portion turn controlled by the flame from the burner 19. Extending radially from the torch 8 iinrnediately in advance of the outer end of the tube 42 is a gas conducting and torch igniting tip 45, the lower end of-which extends a short distance into the torch 8, as at 46, and is provided with a lateral opening 47 facing; the discharge opening 18 in the plug 12. The upper end of the member 45 is closed by a plug 48 and is proiided in its opposite side walls with registering openings 49 and 50, the opening 49 facing the perforations 9 and the opening 50 facing the discharge of the tube 42.
The device being assembled as in the drawings, the saine operates in the` following mannere- The chamber or container 21 being filled with a quantity of fuel known to burn through the wick a predetermined period 100 and the valve of pipe 6 being opened and 7 closed, the wick 19 is ignited. The flame from the wick 19 completely fills the shell 17, heating the liquid in the tube 24, and at the same time heating the pipe 15 coiled 105 about the tube and within the shell 17. On the raising of the li uid 25 to a predetermined teznperature dependent on kthe adjustment of the valve 38 on the stem 33, the valve 38 is opened, permitting fuel to pass iio from the pipe 40 into theportion 26 of the pipe 15, which conductsthe fuel into the coils within the shell 17. These coils being rat a high temperature, the fuel in passing therethrough is readily gasified and dis- |15 charges therefrom through the nozzle `13 1 into the torch 8. The flame from the burner 19, due to the draft Within the shell 17 and the relative position and formation of the plate 44 and beveled end of the tube 42, ig- 120 nites the gas, which is directed rearwardly through the tube 42 from the opening 50. The gas under pressure as delivered into the torch 8 through the opening 13 is directed toward the opening 47 and the open lower 125 end 46 of the igniting tube' 45, andin passing upwardly through said tube 45 discharges through both openings 49 and 50. However, only the opening 50 is necessary, and the opening 49 may be dispensed with. 13o
