must necessarily be kept in hermetically sealed vessels, but which are of such flammable nature as to render it dangerous to close the filling openings by the use of solder which must be applied in a hot condition. By my improvement I close the filling opening of a sheet-metal container in a manner to render the container absolutely air tight, and accomplish this result by a sealing device requiring pressure only to render it effective, thereby avoiding the necessity for the use of solder.
A further object of my invention is to provide a container of this kind which cannot be refilledor reclosed without the fact of the refilling and reclosing being apparent.

In the drawings, 1 designates the body of my sheet metal container, and 2 is a filling and pouring neck which may be secured in any suitable manner to the body 1. The neck 2 is provided at its upper end with an outwardly extending flange 3 which completely surrounds the upper end of the neck and carries a downwardly extending annular lip 4 concentric with the neck 2. The
annular lip 4: is provided with an external screw thread. The neck 2 and lip 4 provide concentric inner and outer walls at the upper margin of the container, and these walls are united by the flange 3 which may be termed a top wall.
5 designates a cap having an annular flange which is internally screw threaded for appllcatlon to the screw threaded lip 4 of the container neck. This cap is provided with a central aperture of a size equal to or greater than the size of the opening at the upper end of the neck 2, and the top portion of the cap between said opening and the flange of the cap is adapted to overlie the horizontal flange 3 of the neck 2. Said top portion of the cap is of such form that its inner face lies parallel with the top face of the horizontal flange 3 when the cap is applied to the container neck, and the opposing surfaces of said cap and horizontal flange are grooved and ribbed so that a rib on one of these members will oppose a groove in the other member. Each member is preferably formed with a series of ribs and intervening grooves, and these ribs and grooves uponand in each of the members are circular and concentric with each other. The ribs and grooves are seen most clearly in Fig. VI, and the ribs and grooves upon and in the flange 3 are designated respectively 3 and 3, while the ribs and grooves upon and in thetop of the cap 5 are designated respectively 5 and 5".

This sealing disk may be of any suitable, pliable or ductile inag'ierial but is preferably formed of tin or When the herein described closure is to be applied to the neck of my container, the flange of the cap 5 extends in a straight line from the top of the cap, and, therefore, when the sealing disk 6 has been seated on the neck 2 so as to overlie the closure therein and extend onto the horizontal top flange 3 of the container neck, the cap may be readily screwed onto the lip 4 extending downwardly from saidhorizontal top flange. In thus applying the cap it is screwed onto the container neck with a suflicient degree of pressure to cause the circular ribs on the opposing elements 3 and 5 to force portions 1 in the opposite. member. The sealing disk is thereby firmly wedged and compressed between alternating circular ribs and circular grooves with the result of producing an absolutely air tight seal around the upper end of the container neck and between said neck and the closure applied thereto.
To open my container it is only necessary to cut the sealing disk 6 adjacent to the wall of the aperture in the cap 5 in a continuous course around this wall and by so doing a clear opening through the cap and into the neck of the container is produced. This cutting of the sealing disk is readily accomplished due to the nature of the material'of which the disk is formed, and also due to theraised central portion of said disk. After the seal has been broken by cutting out its central portion in the manner mentioned, a cork or other stopper may be readily 1ntroduced through the cap and into the neck of the container as illustrated in'Fig. VI.
To facilitate the seating of the stopper and its retention in the container neck, said neck is preferably tapered as shown, and the diameter of the central aperture in the cap 5 is greater than the internal diameter of the neck.
To provide against refilling of my container with the closure in a condition similar to its original condition, I make the cap 5 of a material which may be readily bent and form its flange which fits the lip 4 of the container neck of a length suflicient topermit of said flange being bent or crimped into a'position beneath said lip. The flange of the cap extends downwardly beyond the lower edge of the lip of the container'neck, as indicated. in dotted lines Fig. III, following the application of the cap to the container neck, and such projecting portion may be readily bent inwardly into the position shown by full lines Figs. III and VI. When the flange of the cap has been so bent, it would be extremely diflicult to rebend the flange of the cap, and consequently is practically impossible to remove the cap and the seal held thereby and reapply the closure without leaving it in such condition as to indicate the removal and replacement.
I claim j 1. A container comprising a sheet metal I neck having an outwardly jutting horizontal top flange and an annular externally screw threaded 11p extending downwardly from said top flange, an apertured cap com rising an annular top flange overlying the orizontal top flange of said neck and an internally screw threaded flange fitted to said externally screw threaded lip, and a soft metal sealing disk closing the aperture in said cap and seated between the horizontal top flange of said neck and the top flange of said cap, one of said top flanges having a circular groove therein and the other top flange having a circular projection for forcing a ortion of said soft metal sealing disk 1nto said groove.
2. A container comprising a sheet metal neck having an outwardly jutting horizontal top flange and an annular externally screw threaded lip extending downwardly from said top flange, an apertured cap comprising an annular top flange overlying the horizontal top flange of said neck and an internally screw threaded flange fitted to said externally screw threaded lip, and a soft metal sealing disk closing the aperture in said cap and seated between the horizontal top flange of said neck and the top flange of said cap, one of said top flanges having a circular groove therein and the other top' I flange having a circular projection for forcing a portion of said soft metal sealing disk into said groove, the lower margin of said internally threaded flange being turned un' der the lower edge of said externally threadgd jlip so as to permanently lock said apertured cap to said neck, and said soft metal sealing disk being exposed to receive a cutting tool at the aperture in said cap.
A container comprising a sheet metal neck having an inner wall adapted to receive a stopper, an outer wall separated from said inner wall and provided with external screw threads and a top wall uniting said inner and outer walls, an annular cap comprising an annular top flange forming a circular aperture and an internally screw threaded flange extending downwardly from said annular top flange, said top ange overlying said top wall and said screw threaded flange being fitted to the external threads of said outer wall, and a soft metal sealing disk closing the aperture in said annular cap and having its marginal portion upset between said annular top flange and said top wall, said soft metal sealing disk being exposed to receive a cutting tool at the aperture in said cap, and the diameter of said aperture being greater than the internal diameter of the inner wall of said sheet metal neck.
