Be it known that l, ALBERT Bononnn, a subject of the German Republic, residing at Malmo, Sweden, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for lllanufacturlng Seamless Articles of Rubber, of which the following is a specification.
In machines for producing seamless articles of rubber a rotatable mold carrier has been used, by the aid of which the molds are dipped into the solution of rubber. it has also been suggested to recover the solvent of the said solution by allowing the mold carrier to make a rotative motion within heated air and to allow the vapor or the warm air saturated with such vapors to contact with cooling surfaces arranged within the casin Since it is not practicable to allow air heated above 25 C. to act continuously on the rubber goods, because in such case blisters will be created on the surface and since the low temperature to be used and the low degree of saturation connected with such low temperature results in a very little ab solute enrichment of the air with vapors of the solvent. in devices of this kind the recovery of the solvent and the drying of the rubber goods is very deficient on account of the want of an energetic circulation.
A better circulation, it is true, will be gained, when by the aid of ventilators the enriched warm air is sucked from the casing and after repeated heating outside is passed to an outer cooling device. Devices of these kinds do not work had, however, they have the drawback that firstly there is a special driving pair necessary for the suction devices and secondly a repeated heating of the air is required.
This complication, it is true, is also avoided in devices. in which a drying of the film of rubber on the molds takes place from the inside toward the outside, for instance by heating the molds and arranging the cooling surfaces within the casing; however, in other respects these devices are complicated, namely on account of the special construction of the mold carrier requisite for such heatin The present invention follows a different 7 way without necessitating the suction and repeated heating of drying'from inside out. According to this invention heating sur faces are arranged beside the cooling surfaces in the casing inclosing the mold carriers in such manner that the walls of the.
casing lying on the two sides of the mold carrier are given temperatures of different these means firstly an energetic circulation and connected herewith an intensive drvin of the rubber goods is obtained and secondly the advantage may be upheld that by the increased heating of the enriched or saturated air the recovering of the solvent can be facilitated.
The circulation can still be improved on by making use of a special guide or battle plate, which next to the heating surface is perforated. This plate will form a mantle, thus creating a space between it and the casing aiding to a great extent thecirculation, but also preventing the heating of the work pieces to a great extent, when the enriched air itself is heated to a high degree, which sometimes may be necessary. By the periorated parts of this baffle plate or guide surface a powerful suction of the air from the inside toward the hollow space of the mantle will take place and after skimming.

Figure 1 is a vertical section of the apparatus and Fig. 2 is a similar section of a modification.
In the construction shown in Fig. 1 the solventrecovering .device A is arranged above the dipping device B. The first named device comprises a casing 1, in the ends of which the shaft 2 for the mold carrier 3 is rotatably journaled. The molds 4. on which the seamless rubber articles are formed. are arranged in series on the rotatable mold carrier 3. Thelower part of the casing 1 has an opening 1', which can be closed by a bent slide 6. to which'may be attached a handle 5 to enable the slide to be opened by hand. The dipping-device B comprises a receptacle 7 for the solution within the casing 1". The receptacle 7 is attached to a-plunger 8 by means of which in a known manner the receptacle 7 will be raised after the slide 6 is moved to one side to clear the opening 1'. "The receptacle 7 is raised to such a height that the series ofmolds 4, which at the time are in their lowest position, dip into the solution. The casing 1 or the solvent recovermg do me A 18 on part of its circumference .provided with a heating serpentine 9, which in the construction shown reaches down from top to the right hand side of the casing. The left hand side of the casing is formed partly as a cooling mantle 10, to which by the pipe 11 cooling means, for instance cold. water, is introduced from below, which can run out at the top by the pipe 12. A guide or bafiie plate 14; is attached to the casing and bent to run around the mold carrier concentric to its axis and perforated at 13 near the heater 9. Thus between the bafiie plate 14 and the wall of the casing 1 a circulation space is created. Another baflie plate or guide plate 15 is arranged opposite the lower partof the battle plate 13. By these means a circulation of the gases or vapors within the casing will follow paths indicated by arrows in the drawing.
In the construction shown in Fig. 1 the casing. 1" of the dipping device is extended to form a cylinder 1*, into which, when opened, the recovering device can be slid. In this construction. the heating serpentine is arranged within the casing 1 and also the doubling of the left side of the casing to form a cooling mantle 1O is turned toward the inside of the. circumference of the casing, so as to enable the sliding into the casing 1".
The slide 6 may also be opened instead of by hand by mechanical means, for instance by two pinions 16, one on each end of the casing and both attached to a common shaft 17 and adapted to engage segmental racks 18 attached to the slide 6. In other respects the apparatus is similar to that described with reference to Fig. 1.
I claim:
1. Apparatuslfor manufacturing seamless articles of rubber, consisting of dipping means and'solvent recovering means, a casing for the recovering means, a. mold carrier journaled within the said casing, cooling means and heatingineans so. arranged on the solvent recovering means that different temperatures will be obtained on the two sides of the mold carrier.
2. Apparatus for manufacturing seamless articles oi rubber, consisting of dipping means and solvent recovering means, a casing for the recovering means, a mold carrier journaled within the said casing, cooling means and heating means, battle or. guide plates within the solvent recovering device adapted to form a circulating space near the heating surface and perforated next to this heating surface.
3. Apparatus for manufacturing seamless articles of rubber, consisting of a dipping device and a solvent recovering device, the latter comprising a casing and a mold carrier rotatably journaled within the casing, heating means, such as heating serpentines on one side of the casing and cooling means, such as a cooling mantle on the other side of the casing, the axis of the mold carrier being adapted to be heated.

Apparatus for manufacturing seamless articles of rubber, consisting of a dipping device and a solvent recovering device, the latter comprising a casing and a mold carrier journaled within the casing, the dipping device comprising a casing and a receptacle attached to a plunger adapted to raise the receptacle, the first named casing having an opening adapted to be closed by a slide,
the said receptacle being raised when the said slide is withdrawn to enter the first named casing through the said opening to allow molds on the said mold carrier to dip into a solution within the said receptacle.
5. Apparatus for manufacturing seamless articles of rubber, consisting of a dipping deviceaztnd a solvent recovering device, the latter comprising a casing and a mold carrier joglrnaled within the casing, the dippmg (1 Vice comprising a casing and a receptacle attached to a plunger adapted to raise the receptacle, the first named "casing having 'an opening adapted to be closed by a slide, the said receptacle being raised when the ,said slide is withdrawn to .enter the first named casing through the said opening to allow molds on the said mold carrier to dip into a solution within the said receptacle, racks fastened to the said slide and pinions journaled onthe-second named casing and adapted to engage the racks to open and close the said slide.
6. Apparatus for manufacturing seamless articles, consisting of a dipping device and a solvent recovering device, the latter comprising a cylindrical casing and a mold carrier journaled within the casing, heating means on one side of the said casing and cooling means on the other side of the said casing, a casing for the clipping device extended upward to form a cylinder, into which the said cylindrical casing can be slid.
