UMP.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented June 7, 1921.
Application filed April 3, 1918. Serial No. 226,507.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I,"DAV1D A. Dnonow, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, county of Erie, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pumps, fully described and represented in the following specification and the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the same.
This invention relates to pumps, the especial object of the invention being to provide a combined pump and condenser structure that is compact, simple and economical.
yThe following specification describes and the accompanying drawing illustrates a lpump constructed in accordance with the invention, it being understood that changes may be made in the form, arrangement and construction of the parts without departing from the invention, the form herein shown being a preferred embodiment thereof.
In the drawing f Figure 1 is a view in side elevation, with parts in vertical section, of apump embodying the invention; and i v Fig.`2 is a cross sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Referring tothe drawing, a double acting centerpacked 'pump is shown, having the pulsation chambers 11 with the force and air chambers 10 above them, and the casing 12 forming the common suction chamber 13 below them, with the suction funnels 14 and suction pipe 15. The space above the lower ends of the suction funnels form air spaces and as here shown, separate air chambers are formed for the two sections by means of a web or partition 16 and extending down into the suction chamber. I
Within the suction chamber 13 is a condenser, located in the path of the water flowing through the chamber. As here shown, the condenser pipes 17 are mounted in the sides of the casing 12 and open into common chambers 18, 19, formed by caps 20, 21 secured to the casing. rihe exhaust steam iniet 2a and free exhaust pipe 25 connect with chamber 19, and the chamber 18 has the usuai outlets 22 and 23 for water of condensation and air.
Vhen the pump is operated, the water ficwing in from pipe 15 and through the suction chamber to thetwo intake funnels, passes over the condenser pipes. Thus the water being pumped is utilized as a cooling' medium for the condenser for the exhaust steam from the engine that drives the pump. i.With this condenser within the casing that forms the suction chamlier, and with the further feature of the air chambers described, a structure combining the pump, condenser and suction air chamber' is provided which is extremely compact, simple and economical.
1Wha-t is claimed is: p 4 Y 1. The combination with a pump and Yits suction chamber,`of means for forming an air chamber in the suction chamber', and a condenser in said suction chamber with its condensing surface Vlocated in the path of the water flowing through said suction chamber.
2. In a. pump, the suction chamber 13, the suction funnels 14%, the web 16 dividing the chamber between the funnels and the condenser pipes 17, substantially as described.
In testimon whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
