Machines for Finishing Slate-Frames.
No. 138,005. PatentedApril22,i873.

PATENT OEEIoE.
JAMES H. OOFFIN AND GEORGE S. OOFFIN, OF DANIELSVILLE, PA.
IMPROVEMENT IN MACHlNES FOR FINISHING SLATE-FRAMES- Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,005, dated April 22, 1873; application filed February 25, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JAMES H. OOFFIN and GEORGE S. OoEEIN, of Danielsville, in the county of Northamption and State of Penn sylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvement in Machines for Finishing Slate-Frames; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, that will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon which form a part of of this specification.
The nature of our invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a machine for rounding the corners of school-slate frames, and ovaling the edges of the same, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of our entire machine; and Fig. 2 is a similar view of the form with the slate-frame removed therefrom.
A represents the table of our machine, supported upon legs or suitable frame-B. Through the table A near one side passes a vertical revolving shaft, 0, upon the upper end of which is secured the cutter'head D. E represents a circular gage below the cutter-head D, and attached to the revolving shaft O, or attached to the table A, and the shaft passing up through the center of the gage. Gr represents the form on which the slate-frame to be operated upon is placed. One corner, a, of this form is rounded, and on each side of this rounded corner is an upward-proj ectin g flange or guide, 1), against which the slate-frame is to be held while being operated upon. In the form G is a diagonal slot, 11, running inwardly from the corner opposite to the rounded corner a, and through said slot passes a screw, e, or its equivalent, into the table A, and by this means the form is guided and held in place while the operation is being performed.
The. slate-frame H is placed on the form G against the flanges or guides b b, and by bringing the form in contact with the circular gage E, and moving from right toleft, the corner is rounded and one-fourth of the whole slateframe is ovaled or finished on the edge by the cutters in the head D.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent. is-
The frame G having rounded corner a, flanges b b, diagonal slot d with screw 6, in combination with the cutter-head D and gage E, substantially as and for the purpose specifled.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands.
JAMES H. GOFFIN. GEORGE S. OOFFIN.
