cHILDs VEHICLE.
' Application filed .Tune 16,
To all whom t may concern:
l Be it known that I, JAN KUoINsKI, a citl- Y zen of Poland, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Childrens Vehicles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to toys, and the object of this invention is to provide a toy suitable for children and onewhich is instructive as well as particularly interesting and amusing.
Referring to the drawings,-
Figure 1 is a sectional side view of the toy on the line 1-1 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 2 is a plan view. y
F ig. 3 is a front view with part of the front plate removed.
Figs. l and 5 show certain parts of the invention in perspective, and
Fig. 6 is a side view.
Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and in which- 0 A toy wagon-like structure, comprising a floor member 1, front member 2, rear member 3, side members 4 and 5, central member 6, and seat member 7 rear axle 8, front axle 9, wheels 10 on axle 8 and wheels 11 on axle 9, is shown, the parts being fastened together in any suitable manner permitting of wheels 11 to revolve whenever the toy is propelled backward or forward. The ends of shaft 9 are `shown square and nested in similar sized perforations in wheels 11, as at 12, and near the center of the shaft Vis mounted, by gluing or other suitable means, a gear wheel 13 in mesh with another gear wheel 14 fixed to a shaft 15 rotatably carried in supports 16 and 17 mounted on floor member 1, said shaft 15 having also fixed thereto a pulley wheel 18 and a pair of crank arms 19 and 20. Two lever arms 21 and 22 are shown pivote'd on'a rod 23 supported by supporting members 24 and 25 carried on floor member 1, and these lever arms are connected to crank arms' 19 and 20 by means of links 26 and 27, so that lever arms will be moved back and forth upon ro- Specicaton of Letters Patent. Y Patentgd May 31, 1921,
1920. Serial No. 389,275.
tation of shaft 15. On iioor member 1 near the rear end thereof are mounted a pair ofk supports 28 and 29 supporting a rotatableV shaft 30 on which is fixed a pulley wheel 31 anda pair of crank handles 32 and 33,'
Y It is evident from the above that when' vwheels 11 are turned as b v movement of the toy backward or forward, shaft`9 will rotate causing gears 13 and 14 and shaft 15 to rotate, vthus effecting reciprocating movement of lever arms 21 and 22 and aA turning of wheel 31 and crank handles 32 and 33.
It is, possible to construct thistoy large and substantial enough to carry a child and, in this event the toy may be propelled by the child either by turning crank vhandle 32 or 33, or by reciprocating lever arms 21 or 22.
A toy of the construction above described is of unusual interest to a child on account of the many and varied movements of the parts and is particularly instructive in that the toy illustrates so many and varied mechanical movements and means of Vpower transmission. e v Y l Having thus described my invention what I claimas new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of theUnited States, is-
In a toy, in combinatiom'a wagon-like structure having a pair of wheelsmounted on and revoluble with an axle thereon,` a gear on said axle, a rotatable shaft mounted on said structure, a secondgear fixed to said shaft and meshing with said first gear, a pulley wheel on said shaft, a second pulley wheel mounted on said structure and in4 driving connection with said firsty pulley wheel, a pair of crank arms on'said shaft, and a pair of pivoted lever arms mounted on said structure, each lever arm' beinglinked to one of said crank arms, whereby upon rotation of said first wheels said lever armsl will be reciprocated and'both of said pulley wheels will .be caused to turn. p
In testimony whereof I have afxed my signature.
JAN KUCINSKI.
