IMPROVEMENT IN'DOMES FOR STOVES.

Specification forinihg part of Letters Patent No. 137,9?6, dated April 15, 1873; application filed February 12, 1873.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, AMMON TAYLOR, of N ewtown, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Dome for Stoves; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same,

This invention relates to a cover or drum to be placed upon the top of a stove to increase the radiating surface of the stove, and at the same time to expose the fire or permit the light therefrom to be seen, designed with special reference to cooking-stoves; and the invention consists in a dome in form corresponding to the openings in the stove-top, so that when the covers are removed the said dome will cover the uncovered space, and the edge of the said dome provided with one or more glazed openings, as more fully hereinafter described. I

The dome, as shown in the drawing, is designed for a cooking-stove. The open space A is of the form denoted in Fig. 2, the dome to cover this opening, as denoted in broken lines. The body or sides B of the dome are preferably made of sheet-iron, with a base, C, for strengthening the lower edge, and with a top or cover, D, and may be made ornamental, according to the taste of the manufacturer. Through the sides openings E, more or less in number, are formed, and these filled with isinglass, so that when the dome is set upon the stove the light of the fire may be seen through the glazed openings, giving to the stove a cheerful appearance.

It will be understood that the dome is designed for use upon the stove when the open ing is not used for cooking or other purposes.

Fitting the top of the stove closely, the heat directly from the fire will come within the dome, the dome affording an additional amount of radiating-surface, so that for heating purposes the stove is greatly improved.

I claim as my invention- The herein-described dome, constructed to be set on and cover the openings in the top of a stove, when provided with the glazed openings E, substantially as set forth.
