AM, PHoro-L/TNoa/fAPf/fc co. umosaonw PROCES@ UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CAMILLE GEN SE, OF FOUILLOY, ASSIGNOR TO GUILLAUME PROSPER LANIER, OF PARIS, FRANCE.
IMPROVEMENT IN BED-BOTTOMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 137,909, dated April 16, 1873 application filed March 21, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CAMILLE GENSE, of Fouilloy, in the Republic of France, have invented a new Improvement in Bed-Bottoms 5 and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawing constitutes part of this specification, and represents, in
Figu're l, a sectional elevation; Fig. 2, a plan of the spring-mattress.
This invention relates to mattresses for wooden and metal bedsteads, sofas, and other articles; and consists in suspending any requirednumber of longitudinal bars by sheetsteel springs made in the form of inverted crosiers, a spring being used at the ends of each bar.
The main frame of the mattress consists of two side frames formed of boards or plates, kept together by two cross-bars and in pieces of wood or metal fixed to the side frames are tenoned two other cross-bars, to which one end of each spring` is iixed, the other ends of the springs being connected, by strips of leather or other lexible material, to hooks screwed to the ends of the longitudinal bars, which bars are prevented rom moving longitudinally by plates or strips held to the side frames.
The main frame of the mattress consists of two side frames formed of boards or plates a a, kept together by two cross-bars, d d; and
in the pieces of wood or metal c c fixed to the side frames are tenoned two other cross-bars, b b, to which one end of each spring f f is xed, the other ends of the springs ff being connected, by strips of leather g or other flexible materials, to hooks h screwed to the ends of the longitudinal bars t c', which bars are prevented from moving longitudinally by strips j j held to the side frames by hooks k k screwed thereto.
The assemblage of the springs ff with the longitudinal bars z' t' and the strips of leather g g constitute a very mellow, hygienic, and easily-disconnectable spring mattress or bedbottom.
The cross-bars may be formed of slight iron in order to easily apply to the beds of'irqn, and thus constitutes a bed with spring-mattress, enabling to suppress the employ of the straw mattress.
This spring mattress may b e hinged with a hinge or fold in order to facilitate its conveyance.
I claim as my invention-V A bed-bottom consisting of the longitudinal bars t', flat springs f, ilexible connections h, and transverse strips j, all combined as specied.
In testimony whereof I have signed my naine to this specification before two subscribing witnesses.
Witnesses: C. GENSE.
