IMPROVEMENT IN TRIMMINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 137,857, dated April l5, 1873 application led March 1, 1873.
CASE A.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, WELWooD MURRAY, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Trimming, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of a bias box-plaited trimming of plain lace alone, or the same with the edges trimmed with gured lace, or gured lace or other goods trimmed with figured lace or other suitable trimming on the edges, folded longitudinally a little one side of the middle, so that one edge-trimming comes a little higher than the other, showing two rows of edging or trimming, and the bias box plaits of one'part crossing those of the other diagonally, which said trimming I propose to use for making what I call collarettes for ladies neck-wear,'also cuffs and other light articles, 'and also trimmings for various purposes.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a collarette made of my improved trimming, partly unfolded. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the bias box plait before being folded; and Fig. 3 is a plan view of a bias box-plaited strip of plain lace without the edge-trimming folded. l
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
In the unfolded part of Fig. l, A represents a bias boX-plaited strip of plain lace, or it may` be any other plain goods or figured lace, if preferred, with edge-trimmings B, of figuredlace or other fine trimmings, which, after being so boX-plaited and sewed along the seam D, I propose to fold longitudinally a little one side of the middle, to form a new trimming, consisting of the under part A and the top part B', of bias boX-plaited stuff, with trimmed edges B, arranged as shown in the folded part ofthe figure; also, as shown in Fig. 3, without the edge-trimming, in which figure it is shown more clearly how the bias boX-plaits cross each other diagonally,whicl1 is an important feature of the invention, inasmuch as it produces a pleasing effect in the appearance of the trimming.
It is not very essential to sew the trimming after it is boX-plaited, for it will retain its shape well without, owing to the crimps of the folds.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As a new article of manufacture, the trimming composed of a bias boX-plaited strip of plain lace or other suitable goods, with the edges trimmed with figured lace or other trim ming, and folded, substantially as represented in Figs. l and 3.
