COLLAR-BUTTON.
To all whom t may concern: Y
BeV it known that I, Bosnia A. KAHL, va citizen of the United States, and a resident of Wallingford,in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in vCollar-Buttons, of which the following is a specification.
' relatively thin and curved to conform to the contour of the neck so that the button as a whole is prevented fromV pivoting and will not pierce the front of the neck and cause throat irritation as in the usual form of collar button.
I will describe one form of button embodying my invention and will then point out the novel features thereof in claims.v
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a view showing the neck-band of a shirt having applied thereto one form of button embodying my invention; l
Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view, showing the button shown in Fig. 1 in applied position within the neck band of a shirt and a collar;
Fig. 8 is a detail perspective view of the button shown in the preceding views.
Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the views.
Referring speciiically to the drawings, the present embodiment of my invention comprises a base B upon which is formed a shank S. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the base B comprises a single sheet of metal substantially rectangular in formation which is relatively thin and is curved longitudinally in the form of an arc so as to conform to the curvature of the neck. 'The shank S extends centrally from one side Specification of Letters Patent. Padjiented` May 17, 1921. Application sled' september 1e, 1919i lserial Necesito.'
17and 18are formed inl one edge of the'` shank and 'are disposed substantially parallel to the base'. BIhe recesses.' 17 V`and 18'coactto provide projections -19`and 20,
the outer edge ofthe lprojection 20 being curved in the direction of the base B, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. The recess 16 is formed in the opposite longitudinal edge of the shank at a point opposite to the projection 19.
In the applied position of the collar button to the neck band of a shirt, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the inner end 21 of the neck band receives the shank S through the usual button hole so that the walls ofthe latter embrace the shank at a point contiguous to the base B. The outer end 22 of the neck-band receives, through its usual button hole, the adjacent portion of the shank Sin such manner that the neck-band end is disposed within the recess 17. Owing to the circumferential pull which is usually exerted between the two ends of the neckband the end 22 is securely held within the notchlZ, and this in turn maintains the end 21 in snug engagement with the base B Vof the button.
With the collar button in applied position upon the neck-band, the recesses 16 and 18 are exposed to receive, respectively, the walls of the usual button holes of the two ends 23 and 24 of the collar.l As shown in Fig. 2, the collar ends 23 and 24; are maintained within the notches 16 and 18 by accomplished by successively pulling thel 'l collar ends toward each other so'as to ,per`
mit their withdrawal from therecesses. In a similar manner, the button may be removed' from the neck-band.
From the foregoing description, takenin connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be manifest that in appliying' or removing the collar from the button or inserting or removing-the button from the neck-band that these operations may beA readily accomplished without any way vdistorting or tearing the button holes be.
the base B is such that the button after be-v ing once inserted Within the neck-band is held against twisting in any direction S0` that it at no time pierces the neck.
Although I have herein shown and described only one form of Vcollar button em- Y bodying my invention it is to be understood that various changes and modications may be made herein Without departing from the spirit of the invention, and the spirit and scope of the appended claims*r Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A collar button comprising a base, a flat plate-like shank formed on said base, a pair of notches 4formed in one edge of said shank, and a third notch formed on the opposite edge of said shank at a point between the first-mentioned notches.
2. A. collar button comprising a base5 and a fiat shank adapted to be disposed in a horizontal plane in the applied position of the button, said shank being formed With recesses for confining the neckband and collar ends upon the shank.
