PHONOGRAPI-I-GAQBINET.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that'we, JosnPH G. HOULEY and CHARLES E. SHAW, citizens of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cookand State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Phonograph-Cabinets, of, which the following is a specification. r
This invention relates to filing devices designed for use in connection with talking machine record disks, and its object is to providea novel and improved device of this 7 k nd consistlng of a series of slidable record supporting shelves, and means whereby a shelf containin the desired record may be Fig. 3 is a rear elevatlon partly broken 7 away.
In carrying out the invention, thereis provided a frame or inclosure carrying a series of vertically spaced horizontally slidable shelves 10 on which the talking machine record disks 11 are supported, each shelf carrying one disk.
The frame or lIlClOSuI'B is composedof side walls 12 rigidly secured to and rising to a suitable height from a baseplate 13,-
with a top cross strip 1 1 connecting sald walls at the rear, and a cross strip 15 at the front. The strip 15 is secured to the front edges of the walls 12, and it extends downwardly for a short distance, leaving the remaincler of the inclosure, down to the base plate 13, open, so that the shelves 10 may be slid forwardly to project from the front opening thus formedin the inclosure. To the rear edges of the walls 12 are also secured vertical brace strips 16, which do not extend entirely across the back of the inclosure, leaving the same open between the said strips.
Inside the inclosure, the side walls 12 carry front and rear angle irons 17 arranged so that one of the flanges of each pro'ects inwardly, and these projecting flanges ave Specification of Letters Patent. l

edge notches 18 in which the shelves 10 slidably seat at their side edge portions.
,upright posts 19'which extend between the base plate 13 and .therear topcross strip 14, and are suitably secured thereto. On j each post 19 1s fulcrum'eda series of levers 20, each of which is connected to a shelf-10,, the rear edge of the latter'cjarrying a rear wardly pro ect ng apertured flange 21 into the aperture of which one end of the'lever; j
The other ends of the I levers 20 are connected, as shown at 22, to, push rods 23 extending along the side walls 12, on the inside of the inclosure, and pro-,1 jectlng from the front thereof, and being; here fitted with a'button 24' suitablyinum bered or inscribed with any other index markj The. rods 23 are Supjp'ortedby the loosely extends.
Back of the shelves" 10,- are located two Q outstanding -flanges of the angle irons 17 apertures in which the rods slidably seat. a l Each shelf 10 is provided with an actuat- 1ng connection consisting of a lever 20 and an operating rod 23, and hence by pressing in on the button 2d denoting the desired shelf 10, ,thelatter is advanced from the open front of the inclosure such a distance that the record 11 carried thereby can be readily grasped and removed. It willfbe titles of the selectionsand identifying numbers. Thus,,by consulting thelist, any deunderstood of course-that the records will sired record may be readily removed from f the inclosure by pressing on the button conta ning the same number as that associated 'wlth the t1tle of the selection as it appears on the list. To return the record, it is placed on the advanced shelf, and the latter is pushed back into the inclosure. I Onthe top of each shelf 10 are guard strips 25 for the records 11, the latter seating between said strips. Y
The device provides a'very' simple, compact and efiicient filing device, and one which can be installed in any phonograph cabinet, and in orderthat this may be readily done, the base board or'plate 13 hasits under side fitted with two flush andforwardly projecting flanges 26 by which the by passing screws or other suitable fasteners "entire device may be secured in the cabinet a with aback stop, such as a rib 28 extending acrossthe same near the; rear edge thereof,
' held even at their forward edgeswith the" as shown in Fig. 1. The purpose of this rib is to locate a smaller record close enough tothe front edge of the shelf so as robe readily accessible. Thus, the upper shelves may be designed for ten-inch records, whereas the lower shelves may hold twelve-inch records, and as all the shelves are of the same size'and depth, it will be seen that by the ribs 28 applied to the shelves which hold the ten-inch records, the latteraie corresponding edges of the "twelve-inch records. a f 1 We claim; e I 1'. A filing device for-talking machine rec'ord disks, comprising a frame having sidewalls and an open front, a series of'verticallyspaced and horizontally slidable'disksupporting shelves between the side walls and adapted to be projected from the open 7 front of the frame, shelf-suppo1 ting flanges front of the frame.
on the side walls, said flanges having edge notchesin which the shelves seat at their side edge portions, levers connected to the shelves for projecting the same, and slidable actuators for the levers supported by 'the aforesaid flanges and projecting frorn'the 2. A filing device for talking machine record CllSkS, comprising a frame having side walls and an open front, a series of vertically spaced and horizontally slid-able disk-supporting shelves between the side walls and adapted to be projected from-the open front ram frame, shelf-supporting flanges on the side walls, said flanges having edge notches inwhich the shelves seat at their side edge portions, upright post s mounted in the frame to the rear of the shelves, levers fulcrumed on the posts andconnected tothe shelves for projecting the same, and slidable actuators for the levers supported by the aforesaid flanges, and projecting from the open front of the frame.-
In testimony whereof we aflix our sigiia ture's. 1
