HAIR-EVAVING DEVICE.

Specification of Letters Eatent.
Patented "Belay ill), lit/ 231.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Some B. Tests, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State oi Illinois, have invented new and useful ilmpr vements in Hair-Waving Devices. of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hair waving device and has for its primary object the construction or a simple device capable of givin a perfect wave effect to the hair.
in object of the invention is the novel manner of associating the parts so that this wave eiiect of the hair may be changed by changing the position and shape of various parts of my device.
Another object of the invention is the (OllStl'llClllQn of a device that will hold the hair in a wave shape while subjecting the hair to the action of electric currents.
A feature of my invention is the simple construction of a device and the simple manner in which it may be connected to a strand of l r.
l fith these and other objects in view the invention will be better understood from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of my invention.
' 2 is a top plan view thereof.
-. 3 is a side elevation of another form invention.
at is a top plan view thereof.
5 is an end elevation of that form of my invention shown in Fig. 3.
6 is a top plan view of another form.
At the start I wish to call attention to the fact that the device may have various other shapesv and the parts associated in other relations than shown in the drawing as I am confident that the three forms illustrated will clearly convey the basic principle of my invention.
Again referring to the drawing illustrating my invention but more particularly to Figs. 1 and 2 it will be noted that the device is constructed or a single piece oi: sheet material shaped to have a rectangular body portion 1 and a plurality of spaced cleats laterally from the body porwill be held 2 projecting tion so that the strand of hair in place as clearly shown in Fig. 1. I wish it to be understood that the cleats may be o'l a plurality of shapes and spaced apart equally or unequally depending upon the wave effect to be accomplished. The body portion 1 is provided with a wedge slot 3 in which the end of the strand of hair may be forced to prevent accidental dislocation of the strand from the device.
In Figs. 3, a and 5 l have shown the cleats 5 of a difi'erent shape and construction. Each cleat is of l. shape term in cross section so that the edge 6 thereof will cause an abrupt curve in the strand of hair. This device will give a different wave ellect than the device shown in l. I wish it understood that the cleats 5 may be of any shape and spaced apart at equal or unequal di tances. lt may be found advantageous in practice to curve the edge 6 as illustrated at T in Fig. 5 so as to automatically force the individual hair toward the center of the cleat.
In Fig. 6 l have shown a device as having a body portion 8 from which project staggered cylindrical cleats 9. It found advantageous in practice the rubber band 10 may be used to secure the end of the strand of hair.
In concluding my description I wish to lay stress upon the fact that the device ma be of any suitable material such as metal, celluloid wood, or glass and the cleats may have shape found advantageous and further these cleats may be spaced at equal or unequal distances apart depending upon the wave eiiect to be accomplished and therefore I do not desire to be limited in any manner except as set forth in the claim hereunto appended.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is As a new article of manufacture, a hair waving device formed of a flat piece of metal cut inwardly from one edge toward its longitudinal center to form tongues, said tongues bent at right angles to the strip and the alternate tongues extending in the same direction from the strip and in the direction opposite to the tongues next thereto.
In testimony whereof I aliix my signature.
