Description
v n. 0. ROYSTER. BEVERAGE COOLING AND DISPENSING APPARATUS.
APPLICATION FILED DEC- IO; I918.
Patented May 10, 1921.

BEVERAGE COOLING AND DISPENSING APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 10, 1921.
Application filed December 10, 1918. Serial No. 268,035.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I DAVID O. Rorsrrm, a citizen of the United States, residing at city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Beverage Cooling and Dispensing Apparatus, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in ail-apparatus for the cooling anddispensing of beverages or potable liquids, and particularly the so called cereal beverages now generally manufactured out the country.
The particular object of my invention is to provide a relatively simple and eficient cooling and dispensing apparatus which, when properly constructed, presents a neat and finished appearance and which apparatus can be "economically used for handling beverages or the like which are put up in relatively large containers by the manufacturers and in such containers delivered to the retailers.
and sold throughinvention contemplates the use of a jacket or the like, in the form of a keg or barrel and said jacket being surmounted by a removable member which comprises a housing and a pan, the latter being arranged lOGlOiW the dispensing faucets or outlet valves and adapted to receive the cups or containers into which the beverage is drawn.
in further object of my invention is to provide a dispensing apparatus wherein the various parts entermg into its constructlon may be readily assembled and taken apartand which provision is particularly desirable when it becomes. necessary to cleanse or repair the VflIlOfllS parts of the apparatus.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a dispensing apparatus of my improved con-' structiozn.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of of the apparatus and witha cover broken away.
thelupper portion part of the of cooling the beverage dispensed from the aparatus.
i' emovably positioned on top of jacket 10 is a ring 13, the front portion of which carries a relatively short or low vertically disposed wall 14 and the rear portion carrying a higher .wall 15. These wall members are preferably constructed of wood or suitable material and both inner and outer faces are sheathed with suitable sheet metal as designated by 16. 4
The front edges of the higher wall 15 are united by a transversely disposed wall 17 .both faces of which are sheathed with sheet metal as designated by 18.
Connected to the lower portions of the walls 15 and 17 and the corresponding portion of ring 13 is a bottom wall or plate 19, the top surface of which is sheathed and said sheathing and bottom are perforated as desi ated by 20 to provide drain openings. bus the walls 15, 17, and 19 provide a boxlike structure of semi-circular contour, and removably positioned on top of said structure is a cover 21, of wood or analogous material and having both surfaces sheathed with sheet metal.
The front wall 1% is approximately half the height of wall 15 and removably positioned with the lower portion of said wall 14 and in front of the lower portion of Wall 17 is a semi-circular member 22 of wood or the like, the top surface of which is sheathed with metal and said member being perforated to form drain openings 23.
Fitted to the top of member 22 is a handie 24 which enables said member 22 to be readily lifted from its normal or closed position'.
Positioned in the upper portion of front vwall 17 is a pair of faucets 25 and 26 of any desired construction and removably positioned within the wall 11- in jacket 10 is a bevera e container 27 preferably of the pipe 29 whenever valve 25 .type disc osed in my copending 1eppljiiation, filed December 10, 1918, Serial 0. 266,033.
The upper end of this container is provided with a neck upon which is removably positioned a. cap 28 of the type described in my co ending appllcation ust mentioned, an leading from this cap 28 upwardly through the bottom: plate 19 and through the chamber within the semi-circular housing to faucet'25 is a beverage discharge pipe 29.
Located in the bottom of the chamber within the housing composed of the walls 15 and 17 is a coil 30 through which water is adapted to circulate and be cooled and one end of this coil is detachably connected to the faucet or outlet valve 26. The other end of this coil extends downwardly through bottom 19 and is connected to a Water supply pipe 31, the latter projecting outwardly through the up er portion of jacket 10.
Located on t e exterior of jacket 10 is an air pump'32 of ordinary form and leading therefrom through the wall of the jacket to the cap 28 is a compressed air pipe 33. A waste pipe 34 leads from the lower portion of jacket 10 and is for the purpose of carrying off water resulting from the melting of the ice placed in said jacket.
It will be understood that the containers 27 are delivered from the manufacturers to the retailers or owners of the dispensing apparatus, and when one of these containers isdelivered the cap 28 is positioned there upon.
-To place the container in proper position within the jacket and make the proper connections, said container is placed within the wall 11 and the space 12 between said wall and the wall of the jacket is filled with ice.
The upper part of the apparatus is now placed on top of the jacket and by removing member 22 access may be had to the upper tportion of the jacket for the purpose 0 connecting the lower end of pipe 29 and'the inner end of pipe 33 to the cap28.
-A dispensing apparatus of my improved constructlon is comparatively simple, can be easily and cheaply manufactured, can be readily assembled or taken apart, and pro- 'vides efficient and economical means for cooling and dispenslng beverages and the 7 like.
' It will be readily understood that minor changes in the size, form, and construction of various parts of my dispensing apparatus can be made and substituted for those -herein shown and described without departand a beverage container removably positioned therein, of a member removably positioned on top of the receptacle and serving as a cover therefor, said member comprising a housing and a pan, said pan being provided with a removable bottom, the bottoms of the housing and the pan being provided with drain openings, a faucet seated in the Wall of the housing above the pan, a tubular connection from the beverage container to said faucet, a portion of which tubular connection passes through the housing.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature, this seventh day of December, 1918.
DAVID O. ROYSTER.
