y UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
J OAB H. JANES, HARVY TUCKER, AND TILGHMAN D. TERRY, OF KNOB- NOSTER, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN WHEEL-FLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 137,611, dated April 8, 1873 5 application led February 27, 1873.
. the county of Johnson and State of Missouri,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Plow and Pulverizer; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, that will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to thepaccompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon which form a part of this specification.
This invention has for its object to furnish an improved sulky-plow which shall be simple in construction, efficient in operation, and durable in use; and it consists in the construction and combination of parts as hereinafter more fully described and pointed out by the claims.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure lis a plan view, and Fig. 2 a side elevation, of our invention.
A represents the axle, upon one end of which is awheel, B. O is a beam attached on the axle A, next to the wheel B, and extending a suitable distance toward the rear, its rear end being supported on a caster-wheel, D; and upon the rear end of said beam is supported the seat E, so that the driver will be almost directly over the wheel D. On the shaft A is then placed a frame, Gr, having two plows, H H, and a revolving colter, I, at the side and in front of each plow. The frame G, with its plows and colters, should be of such size, or the beam O of such length, that the plows will be in front of the driver, so that the driver can at all times see his work in front of him. It will .alsopbe seen that the frame G hangs direct on the main axle7 thereby coupling short and close to the draft. On the axle or shaft A is also placed the tongue K and a draft-bail, J, attached to said tongue. On the end of the axle is then placed a drum or roller, L, for the purpose of rolling the plowed ground at the saine time as the next two furrows are being made. This drum or roller may be taken oft' and a wheel put on, if required. The plows, are raised out of the ground by means of a lever, M, passing through a standard, N, on the front end of the beam O, and its lower end connected by a chain, a, with the plow-frame G.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The arrangement of the axle A, beam C with caster-wheel D and seat E, tongue K, and plow-frame G, all substantially as shown and described, and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The arrangement upon one axle,A, of the plow-frame G and drum or roller L, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands.
JOAB H. JANES. HARVY TUCKER.
Witnesses: TILGHMAN D. TERRY.
