Be it known that 1, CHARLES B. Larnrmonr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bayonne, Hudson county, New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clamps, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a clamping device adapted particularly for use in theatrical work in connection with the supporting or placing of the scenes and is known as a cyclorama clamp used to support the back and side drops or scenes on the stage.

The object of the invention is to provide a simple device for this purpose which avoids the necessity of boring holes in the supports or tying with ropes, etc., which is now resorted to as a means for supporting the arms carrying the scenes from the back support, known as a batten.

In carrying out the invention I provide a clamping device composed of two main parts, one adapted to be attached in any position to the batten and the other, which is hinged to the first by a hinge connection which permits movement in any direction and to any position, which carries the side arm. The attachment of the clamp to the batten and the attachmentof the side arm to its clamping member is accomplished without making any holes in the batten or side arm and also provides for the adjustment in position of the device on the batten and the changing of the side arm in a simple manner, which will be explained and will appear more fully hereinafter in connection with the description of the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

In the drawings like parts in the several views have been given the same reference numerals.

Figure 1 is a side view in elevation of the device, parts being shown in section to illustrate the construction.

Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the device as shown in Fig. 1.

The main clamp member is indicated at 1. and is constructed in the form of a box without ends or bottom and of inverted U shape in cross section. Two

This hinge is composed of a ball shaped member 4, which is provided with two extensions or pins 5 and 6 projecting from opposite sides thereof and fit in specification of Letters Patent. -Patented Apr. 26, 1921.

2 and 3 are spaced apart to allow the pin 5 to first be slipped into the hole in the upper arm 2 in an angular position and then swung in to bring the pin 6 over its hole in the arm 3 and then dropped into position with the ball resting on the arm 3. A cotter pin 8 may then be placed in the pin 5 just below the arm 2 to prevent accidental displacement of the hinge.

The second member or arm clamp is indicated at 9 and is of box shape without one end or top. This member carries the side arm which supports the side scene. At the end of this arm clamp are two rojections l0 and 11, similar to the

15 and 16 on the other side wall of the arm clamp 9 by means of which the scene arm may be secured thereto by set screws, which are used on one side only to permit the arm to swing against the main support 1 and the batten.

A similar set screw may be used in the main clamp 1 at 17 to secure the same to the batten in any position.

What I claim is 1. A device of the class described, comprising two clamp members and a ball member provided with projecting pins engaging in openings in extensions from said clamp members, one of said openings being formed with one side beveled upwardly and inwardly toward the body of the clamp to permit the ball member and pin to he slipped into the opening in an angular position and swung into a vertical position to allow the second pin to be engaged in its opening.

2. A device of the class described, comprising a box shaped clamp member of inverted U shape adapted to be secured to the batten, a second clamp member of similar shape adapted to support a scene arm, said first named clam member being provided with extensions id om one side thereof and said second clamp member being provided with extensions from one end thereof, a hinge member composed of a ball shaped member positioned between said extensions, a pin passing through said ball member and one of said clamp members, projections from said ball member engaging in openings in the other of said clamp members, one of said openings being formed with one side beveled upwardly and inwardly to permit the insertion of said hinge member in position.
