This rod at its lower end is providedwith a presserplate 25 having a substantially centrally arranged raised portion'26. -The plate also has an opening 27 which is of sufficient size to per--v mit. thel head 24a to pass through it and there is a groove 28 which communicates with an opening 29 at the center of the raised portion 26.' The opening 29 is offsuflicient vsize to receive the rod 24 but does not permit the passage of the head 24a.
The construction described is for the purpose of assembling plate 25 which may be conveniently done by inserting the head 24a through the opening 27, moving the rod through the passageway 28 of the plate into Athe circular opening 29.

This is important particularly where the device is used for an operation involving vulcanizing, as it permits a pressure of a uniform amount to be maintained upon the article during vulcanization for as the rubberflows during the vulcanizing period, the.
spring maintains all the pressure.
From the foregoingy description it will be seen that each clamp may ybe moved vlongitudinally with respect to the hot plate,
-while block 21 of each clamp may be moved in a direction transverse with respect. to the hot plate, thus enabling the plate 25 to have substantially universal adjustability with respect to-the hot plate. l

It will be understood that where the device is used for vulcanizing, the portion of the rubber article being vulcanized will be positioned beneath the pressure plate 25 and held in contact with the hot plate during the vulcaniziiig operation and it will be readily seen that whether the work being performed is vulcanizing or not that the clamps are quickly adjusted to hold any article or piece of work into contact with the hot plate during the period it is being worked upon. l
I claim:
`1. In a device of the character described a combination with a plate member, a rod late member, of a clamping device comprising lan arm, one end of which is pivotally mounted upon such rod,lcapable of sliding along the rod and a movable presser meinber carried by the said arm and capable of moving .upon the arm and transversely with respect to the hot-plate. v
2. In a device of the lcharacter described the combination with a plate member, a rod mounted adjacentone side of the plate member, of a clamping device comprising an arm,` one .end of which is pivotally mounted upon such rod, ca able of sliding along the rod and a movab e presser inember carried by the said arm and capable of moving upon thearm and transversely with respect to the hot plate, a means for fastening the free end of the lever to the hot plate. 3. Ina the combination with the plate member of a. clampiii device comprising -an arm -which is pivotally mounted at one-enc? at one side of the plate member a block slidably mounted in said arm a threaded rota` table member mounted in such block and a .presser headassocia-ted with'the said rotatable member.
4; In a device of the character described the combination with a plate ymember of a clamping device comprising an arm which is pivotally mounted at one end, at one side of the plate member, a block vslidab'ly mount-ed in said arm, a threaded rotatable member mounted in such block andthe presserhead associated with the said rota- Xtable member, a hook member pivoted' adjacent an end of said arm and bearing to engage to meet 'a portion of the said plate.
5. ln a device of the character described the combination with a plate member of a device of the character described clamping device comprising a lever o'rieeiid i of the said lever being pivoted adjacent a side of the plate, such lever. having an extension be ondthe pivotal point thereof, which is ac apted to` engage a portion of the plate when the clamping device is moved in one direction about its pivot, a block member slidably mounted in the saidA ai'm, a rotatable member on said block, a presser head associated with -the said rotatable member and the hook threadably mounted adjacent an end of the arm and adapted to engage .with the portion of the said plate. 6. n a device of the character described the combination with a plate member a rod mounted adjacent one side of said plate member, of a clamping device comprising a lever, said lever at one end thereof being mounted upon the said rod, and slidable upon the rod, a blockslidably mounted upon said lever and a threaded rotatable member mounted in said block, a presser head associated with the said rotatable memclamping dev'ice comprising an arm pivoted at one end thereof adjacent a side of the plate, a block slidably mounted upon the said arm, a threaded rotatable member eX- tending through a threaded opening in the block, a presser head carried by said rotatable member, a Vspring coperating 'with the said rotatable member, -and'bearing upon lthe said presser head, ap1ate carried by the threaded rotatable member against which the opposite endofv the' sprlng engages,
