Be it ltnown that l, .lor-IN S. EDDY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Los Angeles, in the. county of Los Angeles, vState ol California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fountain Shaving- Brushcs, of which the 'following is a specification.

This invention relates to shaving brushes ot the character disclosed in my two applications lor patent, led, respectively, January 28, 1920,` and June 10, 1920, and numbered respectively, 358,413 and 389,759, and the obit-,ct oi the present invention is to provide an improved form of valve device for regulating the application of the soap tothe brush.

In the accompanying drawing, forming a part or this application, l have illustrated one practical embodiment of my invention, subject te modification, within the scope* of the appended claims, without departing from th e spirit of my invention.

Fig. F) is a transverse section of the saine on line G-tt As shown in my previous applications hereinabove described, my brush comprises a main body portion B, a liquid holding handle ll', a cap C fitting on the handle, a brush holder 71. and a brush ZJ suitably mounted on said holder.

Cap (l is threaded to screw on the outer end 1 ot the handle H and forms a closure .tor the chamber 2 therein which is adapted to hold a quantity of liquid soap, the outer' end of said handle being preferably larger'than the inner end thereof so as to form a convenient lgrip :tor the hands of the user. The outer end of handle M and cap C have knurled beads 3 and 4, respectively, by means of which these parts may be assembled and disassembled for any purpose.

The inner portion of handle H has a' turned cylindrical portion 5 fitting a bore 6 in the outer end of body B and a smaller threaded portion 7 iitting a correspondingly threaded portion 8 of the body and a still smaller turned portion 9 iitting the portion 10 of the body, as shown in Fig. 2. The brush end of the handle H has an elongated tubular extension 11 either integrally formed therewith or attached thereto and forming a continuation of the handle, the said extension having a passage 12 therein which opens into the liquid chamber 2 of the handle at its inner end and is open at its other end, as shown.

Body B has a tubular extension 13 thereon which is attached to or formed on the web 14 of said body and projects into the central portion of the brush 5 for a substantial distance. Said extension has a closed end 15 with a semi-spherical knob 16 on its inner side, against which the correspondingly tapered end portion 17 of the extension 11 is adapted to lit, theextension 11 being snugly iitted into the extension 13, as shown in Fig. 2. A plurality of peripheral apertures 18, 18, etc., are formed 1n the end of the extension 11, and the eX- tension 13 serves to close said apertures when extended as shown in Fig. 2, and to permit the discharge of the liquid therefrom when open as shown in Fig. 5.

Brush holder 7L is threaded on the brush end of the body B and the bristles are held in any suitable manner in the brush body 19 which may be pressed into the holder h, as shown, or otherwise.

lt will be apparent that when the handle l lvl is turned in the body B the tube 13v will be correspondingly moved longitudinally of the tube 11 'for opening and closing the valve formed in the extreme of member 11. When said valve is open the brush may be shaken slightly for discharging a suitable quantity ci the soap into the center of the brush bristles b and then closed again. The character oi the valve as shown and described provides a leak-proof receptacle, easy of operation for obtaining the necessary quantity of soap when desired and i'ree from complicated parts and operations. The arrangement of the handle and body connections insures against leakage, because of the several dierent sized portions of the handle and the lrnurled beads pro.- vided on the dierent parts provide a ready means of assembling and disassembling the brush for any purpose, the beads 21 and 2 2 on the body and on the holder ,71, respectively, being of the same character as those on the handle H and cap C.

I prefer to make the apertures 18 elongated and narrow, as shown, so that only a slight movement of the handle relative to the body will be necessary for obtaining the required quantity of soap for an operation of the brush, but these and other details may be modified for adapting the brush for use.

lVhat I claim is:

l. A fountain shaving; brush having body and handle members and a brush on said body member, said handle member havingv a liquid holding chamber therein, teleseoping extensions on said handle and bod members, said handle extension being,r open and said body extension being closed at one end, the adj aeent end of said handle being adapted to seat on said losure for closing,r the same and outlet means in said outer extensi n for discharging the liquid.

A fountain shaving brush having body and handle members and a brush held on said body member, a soap chamber being provided on the interior of said handle member, a tubular extension centrally of said body member and projecting into the center of said brush, said extension being` closed at its outer end and havingr peripheral orifices therein, a tubular extension on said handle member communicating with said chamber and fitting the interior o iid body extension and adapted to be adjusted longitudinally of said body extension for opening and closing said orifices when said handle is adjusted relative to said body.

A fountain shaving brush comprising body, handle and brush members, telescoping,Y outer and inner tubular extensions on said body and handle members, respectively, said outer extension being closed at its outer end and having outlets in the periphery thereof, said inner extension being;` open at its outer end and arranged so that a movement of said handle will effect a longitudinal movement thereof for opening and closing said outlets, for the purpose described.

ll. A fountain shaving brush having sereiv threaded body and handle members and a brush held on said body, and telesooping tubular extensions on said body and handle, respectively closed and open at their outer ends, said outer extension having peripheral outlets near its Closed end and an internally extendingv closure for the end said handle extension, said handle being adjustable longitudinally of said body and said inner extension being correspondingly adjustable in said outer extension for opening and closing said outlets when said handle is adjusted, as described.

5. i fountain shavingr brush including a body member having a brush held thereon and having a tubular extension thereon projecting into said brush and r-losed at the end, a handle having an extension telesooping into said body portion and open at the end, said body portion being provide-d with a closure for the end of said handle extension, and peripheral outlets formed adjacent thereto, for providing a valve for regulating the supply of soap to the brush, the movement of said handle in said body serving to adjust said handle extension longitudinally of said body portion for opening and Closing; said outlets and for seating the end of said handle extension on said closure.
