The width of the sheets 15 may he varied to provide as many reinforcing ribs in a certain region of the structure as are neces- Sary to adequately strengthen the end and to resist weavin and other strains.
This application is a division of my copending application Serial No. 338,075 filed November 14, 1919.
`I claim:
1. A sheet metal end panel for a railway carcomprising a metal sheet formed with a pressed rigidifying rib having an angle bar configuration at the middle and its ends bent over on diagonal lines to provide channeled portions which taper in depth' and which terminate with closed ends adjacent the sides et' the car.
2. A sheet metal end panel vfor a railway car comprising a metal sheet formed with a pressed rigidifying rib having an angle bar configuration for a portion of its length the res't being channeled, said panel provided with flanges at the ends thereof extending beyond the extremities of the rih for anchoring the ends of the panel to the car.
3. A. sheet metal end panel for a railway car comprising a metal sheet formed with an outpressed rigidiiying rib h-,zming its greatest depth adjacent. its middle and diminishing in depth toward its end and which has an angle bar configuration at the middle and is channel formed at its ends,` said ends being provided with anchoring flanges adaptedto loe attached to the sides of the car and the extremities of the channels being closed.

A sheet metal end structure -for krailwaycars comprising a plurality of horizontally disposed sheets, the lower edges of which overlap the upper edges of the adja- ,i cent sheets and are formed with outpressed rigidii'ying ribs which are oi angular bar configuration and oi greatest depth at the 'middle and terminate in channel shaped 80 tapering portions that merge into the sheet adjacent the sides oi' the car.
8. A sheet metal end `structure for railway cars comprising a plurality of horizontally disposed sheets, the lower edges-of which overlap the/upper edges of the adjacent sheets and are formed with outpressed rigidifying ribs which are of angle har conliguration and of greatest depth at' the middle and terminate in channeled tapering portions that merge into the sheet adjacent the sides of the car, the sheets being provided with attaching i'ianges at the ends thereof.
9. ln a sheet metal end for a railway car, a metal sheet having a margin thereof bent outwardly to form an angular rigidiying rib and having the corner portions of said margin bent to form channeled portions constituting prolongations oi' the angular 100 portions of said ribs, the extremities voli said corners constituting attaching flanges, and side flanges on said sheet opposite the ends oi. said rib for anchorging the ends thereof to the car.
10. A sheet metal structure for a railway f' car, comprising a plurality of sheets vthe horizontal margins of which overlap adjacent sheets, each sheet being formed along` one of said margins with an outwardly 110 ies I pressed angular rigidiiyine' rib, the corner f portions ot said margin being bent over along a diagonal line to form channeled portions diminishing in depth toward the ends, the extremities of said corner portions extending from said channeled portions and constituting flanges adapted to he attached to the adjacent sheets, and side flanges on said sheets opposite the ends of said rih for 11.
