Description
TOWEL TABLE APPLICATION FILED 0016,1919.
.rmmm Apr; 12, 1921,-
INVENTOR JJMVL Ca; V QLZQ ATTORNEY UNITED STATES JOHN L. COX, OF SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA.
TOWEL-TABLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 12, 1921.
l 1 Application filed October 6, 1919. Serial No. 328,844.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN L. Cox, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in TowelTables, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a device for supplying towels for public use and the objects of my invention are: first, to provide a table or stand upon which a number of towels may be placed so that the public may have inclividual towels for use and a receptacle for receiving the same as they are used; second, to provide a device of this class for securing the towel to the table, but permitting free use of the same and its storage into a receptacle; third, to provide a table of this class in which the soiled towel receptacle is such that the damp towels will not sour, mildew and the like; fourth, to provide a table of this class in which a large number of towels may be readily placed in position and secured to the table at one time without the necessity of placing one or two on the securing device at a time; and fifth, to provide a towel table of this class which is very simple and economical of construction, durable, easy to operate, easy to move from place to place and which will not readily get out of order.
With these and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters of reference thereon which form a part of this application, in which:
' Figure 1 is a perspective view of my towel table complete with the towels in position ready for use and showing one in and another being placed in the soiled towel receptacle; Fig. 2 is a slightly modified form of towel securing device; Fig. 3 is a plan View of one of the towels off of the securing device and Fig. 1 is an edge view thereof.
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts and portions throughout the several views of the drawings.
The leg members 1, screen 2, longitudinal support 3, end members 4 and 5, front and back pieces 6 and 6 top 7, back 8, rod9, lock 10, towel 11, and towel hanger 12 constitute the princi a1 table. p
The end members 1 and 5 are semicircular in format their bottom ends over which wire netting of approximately one-half inch mesh is secured and the upper front side is reinforced by means of a member 3. These end members a and 5 are supported by means of leg members which extend up over the members 4 and 5 and are secured thereto by means of screws 1, the lower ends bein broad to provide supports for the table. Mounted on the back of the members 41 and 5 from the screen to the top is a back member 6, preferably a thin board. Secured across the front is a front piece 6 secured to the front edges of the members 4 and 5 and connecting them together at the top. Mounted on the top of the members 4, 5, 6 and 6 is the top piece 7 to which is secured an uprlght back member 8. This member 7 is of approximately the size of the towels in their unfolded form. Mounted on the front on one side preferably the left side is an eye bolt 9 in which is mounted the looped end of a rod 9 and the other end of said rod is provided with a loop which is adapted to come in close proximity to an eye bolt 9 mounted in the other end of the front piece 6 and they are adapted to be connected together by an ordinary padlock 10. Each of the towels 11 is'provided with a long loop hanger 12 extending approximately six inches from the towel thus providing for the use of the towel at some distance from the table and for free movement for the use of the towel and its storage in the soiled towel receptacle. In the modified form of construction shown in F ig. 2 of the drawings there is provided a loop rod 13 which extends through the member 5 and is supported thereby, the other portion passing in front of the same and the ends are provided with loops to which the padlock 10 is secured for holding them together and the towels are mounted on this rod 13.
Though I have shown and described a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions and a certain modification thereof, I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement nor to the modification thereof but desire to include in the purview of my invention the construction, combination and arrangement subparts and portions of my towel upon another on the towel table and secured in position by means of the rod 9, secured by the padlock 10; that the towels may be so positioned one upon another and the rod inserted through all of the loops with one operation instead ofqstringing them on one at a time; that the screen 2 provides for circulation of air for drying the soiled towels placedtherein; that the long loops on the towels provide the position of the rod on the table and the position of the soiled towel receptacle provides a very simple, economically constructed table for providi11 towels for public use.
' Iaving thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A towel table, including a top member adapted to receive the towels, leg members supporting the same at opposite ends provided' with curved portions, 21 screen secured to said curved portions at opposite ends forming a basket for receiving the soiled towels and a rodpivo-tally mounted at one end of said table and extending across said table between the top and basket and a lock means for securing the free end of said rod whereby towels may be strung on said rod and taken from said table, used and the end thrown into said basket and their unauthorized removal from said rod prevented.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at San Diego, California, this 1st day of October, 1919.
JOHN L. COX.
