UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALPHA I-I. METCALF, OF ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOB TO H. A. ALLEN 6t COMPANY, OF ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS.
SOFT-COLLAR HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 12, 1921.
Application filed December 31, 1920. Serial No. 434,273.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALPHA H. ME'roALF, a citizen of the United States, residing at Attleboro. in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Soft-Collar Holders, of which. the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in soft collar holders and the primary object thereof is to provide a holder in which same is formed of two substantially and movably connected similar members, thereby to impart flexibility to the holder so that the latter may accommodate itself to the pull. or draw of the collar ends.
A further object of the invention is to provide a holder that can be made of short pieces of matcrial,-and to also provide a limiting means to restrict the relative move ment between the two members.
The invention further resides in the'details of construction and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and set forth in the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a front side elevation;
Fig. 3 is a section on line 33 of Fig. 1
and
Fig. 41 is a section on line 44t of Fig. 1.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention two substantially similar numbers are employed each being of substan tially U-shaped form and having a curved arm 1 and a straight arm 2 with an inclined terminal 3. The closed ends of the U memhers are formed with hinged knuckles 4, the knuckles. the uppermost of which are shown in Fig. 1, abutting the closed end of the adjacent U-member to thereby limit the relative pivotal or swinging movement between the members.
The pivotal connection consists of a stud or pintle 5 which passes through the closed end of each ofthe members, the stud hav- 111g heads 6 which lie flush with the top and bottom edges of the members and which engage the adjacent knuckles as shown in Fig. 3 to thereby prevent lateral movement of the stud.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the device is possessed of sufficient range of flexibility to accommodate itself to the pull or draw of the collar ends;
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent is:
1. In a soft collar holder, a pair of approximately U-shaped members having hinged knuckles formed oh their closed ends which knuckles interengage, and a stud for pivotally connecting the members passed through the closed end of each member and having heads on its ends disposed below the top and bottom edges of the members.
2-. In a soft collar holder, a pair of U- shaped members having their closed ends overlapping, and a stud extending through the members to pivotally connect same.
3. In a soft collar holder, a pair of members having collar gripping parts on their outer ends and hinged knuckles on their inner ends, and a pintle extending through the knuckles.
4. In a soft collar holder, a pair of members having U-shaped inner ends each formed with knuckles the knuckles interengaging, and a pintle passing through the U- shaped ends.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
