To all whom it may concern:
lie it known that I, HARRY A. BECKER, a citizen of the United States,"residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door- Bolts, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompany ing drawings.
This invention relates to door bolts and has for its object to provide a door bolt constructed to eliminate rattling of the bolt at all times.
Another object is to provide a door bolt containing a novel latch pin which prevents vibration from unfastening the bolt.
Another object is to provide a door bolt having a latch pin which may be adjusted and then set by means of a set screw according to the amount of play that is in the door on which the bolt is used.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a door bolt including a base, said base having a housing in which a locking bolt is slidably disposed, a plate being engaged with the bottom of the base, and a latch pin threaded through the bolt and movable with the bolt in said housing, the end of the pin being adapted to frictionally engage the plate at certain times to prevent movement of the bolt.
With these and other objects in view, the
invention consists in the improved construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described, fully claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical elevation of a door bolt constructed in accordance with an e1nbodiment of the invention,

Referring to the drawings, 5 designates a base member including downwardly extending flanges 6, which coincide with the edges of the base. These flanges cooperate with each other to form a frame, the purpose of which will be hereinafter described. tion of the base is extended upwardly to i provide a housing 7 the intermediate portion of the housing 7 having itsside portion enlarged as at 8, said enlarged portion belng segmental in cross section and merges with the top of the housing 7. The opposite side wall of the housing 7 is provided with a slot 9 corresponding in length to the enlarged portion 8. Recesses 10 are formed in the top of the housing adjacent the enlarged portion 8, said recesses communicating with the slot 9.
The end portions 11 of the housing 7 serve as bearings to properly position a locking bolt 12 which is slidably and rotatably mounted in the housing 7. This locking bolt is provided with a threaded opening 13 of the housing. In this way, the bolt may be readily operated without danger of the projecting end interfering with the sliding or rotating movement of the bolt. In order to permit the latch pin 14 to be adjusted and maintained in its adjusted position, a threaded opening 16 is provided in the bolt 12 and intersects the opening 13. A set screw 17 is disposed in the opening 16and is adapted to engage the threaded shank to prevent the latch pin from rotating of its own accord.
A plate 18 is intended to be disposed within the frame formed by the flanges 6 of the base 5. This plate is provided with openings 19 which register with the openings 6 in the base plate 5, but are slightly larger than the openings 6 so as to prevent the screws or like fastening means from holding the plate rigid.
When the locking bolt is applied to a closure such as a door, the plate 18 is disposed in engagement with the doorand the base 5 disposed over the same so as to conceal the plate within the frame carried by the base. Fastening means such as screws, nails, etc. are passed throughthe openings 6 and registering openings 19 so as to secure the base member to the door. The latch pin 14 is then screwed through the bolt until the the end of the pin projects the desired extent. The bolt may then be moved through the housing, the projecting end of the latch pin moving within the enlarged portion 8. When the bolt reaches the limit of its movement? thelatch pin is swung downwardly into one of the recesses 10, thereby causing the projecting end of its shank to frictionally engage the adjacent portion of the plate 18 Which is thereby forced into engagement with the door and serves as a brake, which eliminates rat tling of the bolt and prevents vibration from disengaging the latch pin from the recess 10 and accidentally unfastening the bolt. if desired, the set screw-17 may be loosened so that when the bolt reaches the limits of movement the latch pin 14L may be screwed through the opening into firm engagement with the plate 18 so as to lock the bolt. In view of this novel arrangement, it is impossible for anyone to tamper with'the bolt from the opposite side of the door such'as endeavoring to slide the bolt from its locking position to its open position, as the latch pin positively prevents any movement of the bolt 12 until said pin is 'unfastened by unscrewing the same so as to cause the pin 14 to disengage'the plate 18. l/Vhen used on a gate, it also prevents the gate from being opened -from the outside by means of an implement such as a piece of Wire engaged with the latch pin to disengage said pin from its recess 10, as the locking pin will not move from its position in said recess in view of the fact that it is disposed in binding engagement with the plate 18. The frame formed by the flanges 6 is of a depth sufficient to receive the plate 18. At the same time, the platedoes not rattle but is supported by the fastening-means that extend through the base. In this way, the portion of the plate thatis engaged by the end of the pin 14 is forced toward the door and serves as a brake. It also prevents the end of the pin from marring the door.
This door bolt may be usedfor various purposes and will be found very useful as an anti-rattling device for 7 windows and also as a lock for wineows, for holding the same in its closed position and also in va What is claimed is 1.. A door bolt comprising a base including a housing, a portion of said housing being enlarged, the portion of said housing opposite the enlarged portion being slotted, a locking bolt rotatably and slidably mount ed in said housing, said bolt having a latorally extending threaded opening, and an adjustable latch pin extending through said opening and slidable through said slot and within said enlarged portion to prevent unobstructed movement of the locking bolt.

A door bolt comprising a base includin a housing, said housing having a longitudinally extending slot, a bolt rotatably and slidably disposed Within said housing, said bolt having a laterally extending opening, a latch pin extending through and beyonl said opening, and means disposed beneath said housing in engagement with the base, said means-being adapted to limit the rotary movement of the latch pin, to prevent movement of the bolt within the housing.

A door bolt comprising a base, flanges extending trom the edges of said base to provide a frame, a plate disposed within said frame and coinciding with the base, a housing formed on said base remote from said drama, the intermediate side portion of said housing being enlarged, the opposite side portion of said housing having a longitudinal slot, the top of said housing adjacent said slidablc portion having spaced recesses communicating with said slot, a locking bolt rotatably and slidablymounted in said housing, said bolt having a laterally extending threaded opening, a latch pin disposed in said opening, and having its end projecting beyond one side of the bolt into the enlarged portion of said housin and movable within said housing and through said slot, saidlatch pin being rotatable into binding engagement with the plate when the pin is disposed in one of said recesses. a
