UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BOOKCASE AN D i MAGAZIN' EHOLDER.
.Application led June 14,l 1920. Serial No. 388,815.
To all whom t may concer/t.'
Be it known that I, WALTER CLEMENT WILSON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of JohnsonCity, in the county of Washington and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bookcasesand Magazine-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
- My present invention relates generally to book and magazine holders, and more particularly to a combined device wherein the books and magazines 'as well as papers may each be Supported with its title exposed and in readily accessible position, my object be'- ing the provision of a simple inexpensive device, adaptable to either the home or ublic libraries, and capable of being ma e in a variety of materials depending for instance upon its particular use or the surroundings among which it is placed.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating my present invention and forming a part of this speciication,
Figure 1 is a front elevation, partly broken away and in section, illustrating my present invention,
Fig, 2 is a side elevation, and
Fig. 3 is a ,detail section showing the adjustable connection of the bottom strips of the magazine compartments.
. Referring now to these figures my inven tion proposes a combined support including a central rectangular frame 10 held at the front and rear portions of itsopposite sides between laterally spaced uprights 11 and\ 12, the frame 10having a top 13 Vwhich also covers the upper smaller endsof the up- These uprights 11 and 12 taper gradu- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 12, 1921.
12 are series of upwardly and laterally oil.- set panels 16 forming magazine, periodical and paper holding sections at opposite Sides of the bookcase section, each of the panels .16 being substantially parallel to the side v bottom strips 19 between the panels, so as to adjustably hold these bottom strips in place to form the bases of the periodical and magazine holding compartments between the panels. In this way each of the compartments may be adapted by adjustment to certain periodicals and so arranged as to support the periodical with its title in plain view as seen in Fig. 2.
It is thus obvious my invention pro-vides a neat, simple and comparatively inexpensive article of library furniture for both home public use, as well as one which will be durable andv will permit of wide range of selection as between different materials of construction.
I claim:
An article of manufacture including a central frame having verticall spaced shelves, uprights supporting the, rame and arranged to extend laterally thereof at the forward and rear portions of its sides, vertically and laterally oiiset panels in series between the said uprights atv opposite sides of the frame, and bottom strips between the several panels and forming therewith periodical holding compartments, said panels having vertical series of openings, and adjustable connecting pins extending through openings in the bottom strips and adapted to be projected 'through selected openings of the panels in order to adjustably hold the bottom strips and in' this way regulate the depth of the compartments.
WALTER CLEMENT WILSON.
