FURNITURE-MODEL.

To @ZZ whom t may concern Be it known that I, IsAAo STEVENS, of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain newand useful Improvementsin Furniture- Models; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, andexact description of the same, reference being had 'to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and to the reference numerals marked thereon.

My present invention relates to the construction of small models illustrative of large articles of merchandise and made of paper or similar material to be used in selling such merchandise so that the purchaser may visualize the articles offered him, and it has for its object to provide a simple, cheap and easily constructed device of this nature that will illustrate diiferent desired combinations of sectional or elastic furniture, the materials used in the sample being in themselves elastic or interchangeable in the same manner as the goods it represents. To these and other ends the invention resides in certain improvements and combinations of parts all as will be hereinafter more fully described, the novel features being pointed out in the claims at the end of the specification.

My invention is particularly useful in giving illustrations of the appearance of filing devicesy and similar sectional furniture used in oiiices. In Fig. l, 1 indicates Specification of Letters Patent.

Taking, for instance, the article indicated 1 at 3, this comprises five sections A, B, C,

DA and E the first consisting of a column of shallow drawers; the middle three sections separate columns of wide vertical filing drawers and the last a section of narrow filing drawers. Each of these in the real article is a separate section secured to the other to build up the complete unit. In the practice of my invention I build up the paper model in the same way. The model 3 comprises the blank shown in Fig. 3 consisting of a front portion 5, a top portion 6 and one end portion 7 all made in one integral sheet including leg extensions 8 hav ing flaps 9 that are finally bent as shown in Fig. 7 to give them supporting capability. The top portion 6 and end portion 7 are attached to adjoining edges of the front portion 5 on scored lines 10 and 1l; This blank is preferably made of blank paper, that is, unprinted, and of a length as to the portions 5 and 6 suilicient to equal the maXimum number of section widths that it will be desired to represent. The end opposite to that carrying the end portion 7 (the left end in Fig. 3) is then cut oii' at the proper point and printed strips carrying pictures of drawer fronts as shown at 12 in Fic. 5, are pasted on the front portion 5 in abuting positions in the same manner as the sections of the real article are juxtaposed. End pictures 13 giving the appearance of the end panels that are secured to the outside sections of the real article are applied to the end portion 7 of the blank and to a separate end portion la shown in Fig. 2 and having attaching flaps l5 Aand also the leg extensions 8-9. The blank is then bent up to the block-like form of the original, as shown in Fig. 7 and Fig. l, the end piece 14; being applied to the open end of the blank by past.- ing its flaps 15 to the front and top portions 5 and 6, as clearly shown in Fig. 7. A similar flap 16 on the end portion 7 is pasted to the other end edge of the top portion 6.

Pictures 17 representative of the material of the corresponding portion of the original and in similar sectional pieces are also pasted to the top portion 6 and these may either be separate or may be extensions of the front pictures 12. v

As the panel pictures 13 are usually the same for all sizes and combinations, they may, if desired, be printed directly upon the end portions 7 and 14 and the legs 8 may also be permanently printed on the blank, leaving only the front portion to receive. its different combinations of separate Section pictures.

I claim as my invention:

1. An illustrative furniture model comprising a front, a top and tvvo end portions of sheet material and a plurality of separate picture strips eachrepresentative of a section of elastic furniture pasted to the face of the front portion, the latter and the top being cut to a length that equals the sum of the Widths of the picture strips.

2. An illustrative furniture model comprising a front, a top and an end portion, the tWo latter portions being joined to adjoining edges of the first in combination with another separate end portion having flaps adapting it to be attached to the alined edges of the other ends of the front and top after the latter have been cut to the desired length and a plurality of separate picture strips each representative ofl a section of elastic Jfurniture pasted'to the face of the front portion, the latter and the top being cut toV a length that equals the sum of the Widths of the picture strips.
