Description

G. W. BEERS.
I Curtain Fixtures. N0. 137,405, PatentedApriH,1873.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFrIoE.
GEORGE W. BEERS, OF BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN CURTAIN-FIXTURES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 137,405, dated A; ril 1, 1.873; application filed September 7, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. BEERS, of Bridgeport, in the county of Fairlield and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Carriage-Curtain Rollers; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of referen cc marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawing is a representation of a part section of my invention. Fig. 2 is a top view of my invention. Figs. 3 and 5 are details. Fig. etis a cross-section of my invention.
This invention has relation to means for preventing a curtain-roller from rattling, and from rotating when the weight of the curtain is on one side; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the spring catch or dog at the end of the shaft of the curtainroller,,as hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawing, the letter A designates a curtain roller or barrel journaled on a rod, m, secured to the fixtures B B, the former of which iscircularly and horizontally fl grooved at a, 1n rear of the ournal-bearing, to receive the hook-shaped plate or dog 0, which is pivoted by the pin a to the walls of the groove a, and so curved that it shall have sufficient play about the post B. Within a recess in the groove a of the post is seated a spiral spring, 0, which, pressing against the horn or outer end of the dog, causes the inner or cam-shaped end of the same to press against the plate 2 at the end of the curtain-barrel, said plate being finished smooth, so that when -the barrel is revolving the end of the dog will move readily over its face. The end 01 of the barrel of the curtain-roller is squared, and of sufh'cient size to be stopped by the dog 0 when the latter is closed up against the face of the plate 2, thus preventing the revolution of the barrel. When it is wished to revolve the barrel the plate is pulled out or disengaged from the squared end 21, by means of a cord or other means of communication attached to the dog on its under side, for which purpose the eye to is provided. When thus disengaged the curtain-barrel may be readily revolved, or will revolve itself, if self-acting, by the operation of a spring, a, secured to and coiled around the axle m, which passes through the barrel, to which the outer end of said spring .is attached.
The dog 0, pressing with its cam-shaped end against the face of the plate 2 at the end of the barrel, serves to keep the latter up against the opposite bearings, and thus prevents rattling.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The curtain-fixture B, circularly and horizontally grooved at a, to receive the hookshaped dog 0, and provided with the seated spiral spring 6, the curtain-barrel A having the square end 1; and flange 2, as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE W. BEERS.
