Description

ALDER G. CARLSON, OF MOOSE LAKE, MINNESOTA.
FLYTRAP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 5, 1921.
Application filed September 20, 1920. Serial No. 411,580.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALDER Gr. CARLsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Moose Lake, in the county of Carleton and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flytraps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to fly traps and the object is to provide a neat, cheap and efficient trap for catching and killing flies and other insects. The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is an elevation of a part of a window equipped with my improved trap.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view on the line 2-2 in Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing by reference characters, A designates a window frame in which is slidable a window sash B having panes C, all of common and well known con struction. My trap consists simply of a sheet metal trough I) which is provided with a neat outer plate E adapted to be secured at F in such a manner that the inner side G of the trough will be held close to the win- (low pane L. Within the trough D I place a poisonous liquid preferably a poisonous oil H such as kerosene and a larger amount of water J.
It is well known that flies or other insects in a house or barn will try to escape sooner or later by flying out through the window which to them appears to be open. It may further be observed that while attempting to escape they will buzz over the surface of the glass and will invariably become exhausted and settle down to the lower part of the window sash. WVith my trap in place they w11l be caught in an exhausted condition and easily succumb to the poisonous liquid in the trap.
When the trap is used in barns or other buildings where a perfectly clear window is not necessary or required as in a dwelling, it is found very advantageous to cover the inner side of the glass with a thin coating of the poison so that the flies will more quickly become exhausted and fall into the trap.
Having now therefore fully shown and described my invention what I claim to be new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
In combination with a window sash, a trough adapted to contain a poisonous liquid therein secured to the lower part of the sash adjacent the pane therein, said pane having a thin coating of poisonous liquid on the surface adjacent said trough.
In testimony whereof I affix mysignature.
ALDER G. CARLSON.
