Be it known that T, Lnvi C. GUNnERsoN, a citizen of the United State's,fresiding at Beaver, in the county of Beaver and State of Utalnhave invented new and useful Improvements in Boiler 'Feed-Water Regulators, of which the following is a spec1fication. 2
This invention comprehendsythe provision of a boiler feed water regulator by means of which the water in the boiler can be maintained at any height desired, thereby reducing the amount of fuel used, as the water may be maintained at a height to prevent exploding or bursting of the boiler, and yet low enough to give the boiler maximum steam space.
To this end the invention embodies a tank in communication with the boiler, the tank containing a float associated with a valve which'controls the admittance of water from the supply pipe to the boiler, the float and valvebeing adjustably connected so that the waterin the boiler may be maintained at any desired level.
The nature and advantages of the invention will'be better understood when the iollowing detail de'scription'is taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of. parts as claimed. 5 i In the drawings forming part of this spec fication like numerals oi. reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherein: 1

The feed regulator forming the subject matter of my invention comprises a tank 10 which may be of any suitable size, and above which is supported a valve casing 11 secured to the tank by means of the arms 12. The

A. lock nut 29 is associated with the rod 25. The float 28 is slidably mounted upon guide rods 30 which maintains the float in proper position within the tank 10.: By reason of the construction shown and described; it is manifest that when the water in the boiler reaches a pre determined low level, the float 28 gravitates within the tank 10 and byreason of its connection with the movable member 19 oi the valve, lowers the latter, bringing the openings 20 thereof into registration with. the similar openings of theouter stationary part of the valve 18. Consequently water from the supply pipeil6 passes through the registered openings into the tank11, andfrom the latter to the boiler through the pipe 17 The tank 10 is in communication with the boiler by the pipes 18 and lrespectively.
As the level ofthe water in the boiler and tank reaches a predetermined high level, the
float 28 is obviously raised, and the inner member 19 of the valve moved upwardly to a position-whereby the openings20 thereof are moved out of registration with the similar openings of the member 18. In this position of parts the valveis closed. The constructionprovides for an adjustment between the rod25 oi: the valve and stem 27 of the float, and consequently the regulator can be adjusted to maintain the water in the boiler which the set screw or projection 31 is fitted.
This serves to guide the movable part of thevalve in its movements, and also serves as a stop for the member 19 so that the ,valve is checked in its movements to both opened and closed positions.
It is to be understood that the movable member 19 of the valve is tightly fitted within the member 18 so as to prevent leakage. If desired, the movable member of the valve may be made as shown in the modified form of the invention, wherein the movable member 3% is embraced by a split band of yieldable' material, such as rubber or the like 35. The member 34 is grooved for the i reception of the'band 35, while both of these parts are provided with alined openings 36 for registration with the openings above mentioned in the stationary part of the valve. In this instancethe split band 3,5
is provided with the slot or groove .37 "for the reception of the projection 31..
"While it is believed that from. the fore going" description, the nature I advantages of the invention will be apparent, I desire to have it'understoodthat I' do not limitmyself in this connection, and that such changes may be resorted to when desired fall within the scope of what is claimed.
What is claimed is:
[1. A water feed regulator for boilers comprisinga tank communicating with the boiler, acasing communicating with the boiler and arranged above the tank, a water supply'pipe leading into the casing, a valve controlling the communication between the casing and the supply pipe, said valve comprising inner and outer tubular members, said inner member being movable within the outer member, both o said members having openings adapted to register whenthe valve is opened, a float arranged within the tank and connected with the movable member ofthe' valve, said movable member havinga slot, and a projection carried by the outer member and fitted within the slot whereby the valve is limitedin its movements to opened and closed positions.
2. A water feed regulator for boilers COIQPTlSlIlg a. tank in connection with the boiler, a casing supported above the tank and in connection with the boiler, a water supply pipe communicating with the casing, spaced apertures arranged within thecasing and having a-lined openings, bushings threaded in said openings, a valve including a stationary tubular'member terminally fitted in said'bushings, a second tubular memher slid-ably fitted Within the stationary tubular member, said tubular members having openings f adapted to be brought into registration when the valve is open, a float operatiing within said tank, and a connecion between the floatandsaid second tubular member toguide the latter to automatig cally open and close the valve.
