COLLAR-BOX.
' Application filed June 18,
To allwhom it may concern:
Be it known that T, MONES Gnoss, a citizen of the United States, residing at Berwick, in the county of Columbia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar- Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to receptacles and one of the prime objects of the 1n vent1on 1s to provide an approved box used 1n the dlspensing of mens collars embodying a plurality of compartments, one of the compartments being adapted to hold the reserve collars in their nested state and the other compartment or compartments being adapted to hold collars ready wrapped for sale.
Another prime object of the invention is to provide an improved collar box embodying a reserve and dispenslng compartments, the reserve compartment and the dispensing compartment having separate covers, whereby the entire removal of the box from the shelving and the consequent disturblng of the other boxes is eliminated, when it is desired to remove a collar for sale, thereby permitting of a quick and convenient handlin of the collars.
Hiiretofore in the sale of collars, it was necessary to remove a box from the shelf, take the cover oif 0f the same and select and wrap up the collars for sale. This requires a great deal of time and unless great care is exercised the collars often became soiled and consequently ruined for sale. It is therefore another object of the invention to provide a collar box in which all of the above enumerated inconveniences will be eliminated. The provision of the dispensi ng compartment permits the collar to be wrapped up for sale during the slack portion of the day. a
A further object of the invention is to provide an-improved means for arranging the compartments in relation to each other and an improved means for associating the covers with the box, whereby the covers can be independently and readily lifted.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts, as will be hereinafter more specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification. A

proved collar box, showing one of the covers or l ds in raised position.
Fig. 2 1s a longitudinal horizontal section through the box.
Fig.3 is a longitudinal vertical section through the box, and
F 1g. 4.- is a perspective view illustrating tlli dparts of the box prior to; being assem- Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views the letter A generally indicates the improved box. As shown the box A is of an elongated substantially rectangular configuration and includes the side walls 5, the end walls 6 and the lower wall 7. The body of the box A is divided into compartments 8, 9 and 10 by the provision of partition plates 11, 12 and 13.
The partition plate 11 includes the transversely extending partition wall 14 and the longitudinally extending side walls 15. The
The partition plates 12 and 13 are constructed identically alike and each includes the longitudinally extending side wall 16, the outwardly extending front and rear end plates 17 and 18. The inner end plates 17 are provided with right angularly extending wings 19, which are arranged in parallelism to the central longitudinally extending walls 16. The walls 16 of the partition plates 12 and 13 are adapted to extend in abutting relation to each other and are disposed in the box in such manner, that the same will extend longitudinally of the box at the-central longitudinal center thereof. The front transverse walls 18 are adapted to engage the inner surface of the front end wall 6 of the body A, while the rear transverse walls 17 are adapted to abut the transverse partition wall 14: of the partition plate 11. The side wings 19 are adapted to engage the inner surface of the side walls 5 of the box and hold the partition plates against accidental displacement. The partition plates 12 and 13 form the compartments 9 and 10, which are adapted to hold the collars designated by the letter C, which are to be dispensed. If so desired these partition plates may be secured together and to the walls of the box A in any preferred manner such as by paste, or if so desired the partition plates may be left freely removable.
The compartment 8 is provided with a lid or closure 20 and the compartments 9 and 10 are provided with a lid or closure 21 and these l1ds or closures 20 and 21 are independently operable in relation to each other and are disposed with their edges in abutting relation.
The portion of the box A containing the compartments 9 and 10 is formed relatively longer than the part containing the compartment 8 and thus the lid 21 is formed relatively longer than the lid 20. However the relative length of the compartments 8, 9 and 10 in relation to each other is purely arbitrary and the length of the same can be varied if so desired.
Each of the lids 20 and 21 includes a fiat upper body 22, side depending flanges 23 and an end flange 24. These flanges 23 and 24 are adapted to engage the outer faces of the walls of the box, when the same are in their closed position. The inner or abutting edges of the lids or closures 20 and 21 are provided with depending hinged tabs 25 and 26 which are adapted to be positioned intermediate the walls 14: and 17 of the partition plates and if so desired the hinged tabs may be secured by paste or the like to the walls 14 and 17. It is preferred however that these tabs be freel removably associated with the box. The ta s 25 and 26 are creased at their point of attachment with the covers 20 and 21 so as to permit the covers or lids to be readily swun on the same as hinges. The covers may be suitably braced by fabric strips or the like, if so desired, at this point so as to prevent the tearing or ripping of the tabs off of the cover. It has also been contemplated making tabs 25 and 26 separate from the top plates 22 of the lids or covers and connecting the same thereto by transversely extending fabric strips. The connection of the tabs with the top plate is purely optional however.
The collars C placed in the compartments 9 and 10 are adapted to be wrapped ready for dispensing and one of the compartments is adapted to contain packages of collars containing one collar, while the other compartment is adapted to contain packages of collars containing two or more collars if so desired.
It can be seen that the collars C can be wrapped by the store keeper or clerk, when the business is slack at which time he will.
have a plenty of time to exercise great care in the wrapping thereof, so as to prevent the collars from becoming soiled, and to insure that the hands will be in a clean condition.
In use of the improved boxes, the same are placed on the shelving in the ordinary manner and when it is desired to remove a collar or collars therefrom it is merely necessary to pull the box out from the shelf, and raise the cover 21, and one of the packages of the collars may be readily removed therefrom. Thus it can be seen that the entire removal of the box from the shelf is eliminated.
Changes in details may be made Without departing from the spirit or scope of this invention,
What I claim as new. is:
1. A collar box comprising a longitudinally extending body, a plurality of partition plates arranged in said body and forming a plurality of reserve collar and dispensing collar compartments, a cover for the reserve collar compartment, and a cover for the dispensing. collar compartments, said covers including depending tabs adapted to be positioned intermediate the partition plates.
2. A collar box comprising a substantially rectangular shaped body, a plurality of partitions arranged in said body forming a plurality of compartments, one of the compartments forming a reserve collar supply, the other compartments forming compartments for the reception of wrapped collars for dis-' pensing, a hinged lid arranged to cover the reserve collar compartment, a hinged lid arranged to cover the dispensing collar compartments, each of said covers being hinged 3. A collar box comprising a substantially rectangular shaped body, a partition plate including a transverse wall and a pair of side parallel walls, the side parallel walls beingadapted to engage the inner surfaces of the side Walls of the body, a pair of partition plates arranged in the body including longitudinal partition Walls, transverse outwardly extending partition walls and a pair of parallel extending wings, said partition plates forming a compartment for the reserve supply of collars, and compartments for the wrapped collars for dispensing, a lid for the reserve collar, compartment, a lid for the dispensing collar compartments, each of said lids including a fiat body and a depending hinged fiap carried by the inner edges of the bodies, the hinged flaps being adapted to be positioned between the transverse walls of the partition plates.
MONES GROSS;
at their inner edges between said partitions.
