COLLAPSIBLE BARREL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 8, 1921.
Application filed November 3, 1917. Serial No. 200,213.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it lmown that I WILLIAM J. LAw- RENOE, a subject of the of Great Britl ritish West Indies, have invented new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Barrels, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in barrels. 1
In carrying out my invention, it is my purpose to roduce a collapsible barrel comprising a p urality of sections one adapted to be folded in the other when not in use and when not in such folded condition may be secured to ether by the same means that. is employed or retaining the sectlons when the barrel is in its set up condition.
It is a further object ofthe invention to produce a metallic barrel comprising at least one central tubular 'member having flanged ends which, when meetin are connected together, and the outer angesare designed to be co-engaged by flanges upon the inner ends of the substantially frusto conical members comprising the end sections of the barrel, all of the flanges being provided with alining openings to receive securing elements, the said flanges protecting the body of the barrel when the barrel is either in its set up or collapsed condition.
It is a still further object of the invention to produce a collapsible barrel wherein the sections comprising the same when not in use may be employed for other purposes than that of a barrel, all of the sections having their ends provided with outturned continuous flanges which, may, if desired, receive .therebetween partition plates, so that merchandise of different characters may be readily received in the separate c0m partments of the barrel, and the said compartments, as stated, when desired, maybe employed as separate utensils or holding vessels.
Other objects and advantages will appear as the nature of the invention is more fully understood, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which there is illustrated a simple and satisfactory reduction of the improvement to practice, and in which drawing,
The figure illustrates an elevation of the improved barrel with parts broken away and parts in section.
As shown in the drawing, the body of the barrel is constructed of a plurality of annular members 40, two being shown, each having its opposite edges flanged. The
flanges 40 of the annular members are artruncated cones, and are of a size to fit one within the other when the sides are collapsed. The flanges 54 are secured to the outer members 40 comprising the body of the barrel by elements 56.
From the foregoing description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the simplicity and advantages of the construction, will, it is thought, be apparent without further detailed description.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
A knock-down barrel comprising bodyand end portions, said body including a plurality of superimposed annular members having their ends flanged and the flanges ofthe said members contacting and removably connected, the outer flanges of the end body members having continuous extensions provided with inturned portions, the end members each comprising a member flared from its outer to its inner end and the inner and widened ends thereof being flanged and removably connected to the outer flanges of the body sections, the outer or mouth portions of the ends being flared, and flanged heads received in the said mouth portions of the ends and removably secured thereto.
In testimon whereof I afiix m si nature.
ILLIAM J. LA RE CE.
