CLEANER FOR FIREARM-BARRELS.

To all 'whom 'it may concern:

Be it known that I, MATTHEW. WALL PPooL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Winters, in the county of Runnels and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Cleaner for Firearm-Barrels, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention has'for its object to provide a cleaner for fiream. barrels, which may be conveniently carried in the pocket, and which may be used for cleaning firearms of the repeating type having ejector slots too short to admit of the use of cleaners now on the market.

"When a rifle is cleaned from the muzzle with a rod one side of the bore is soon worn, which permits gas to escape at one side, whenthe rifle is fired, therebyT causing the bullet to tumble. This makes it very diflicult to clean the barrels o`f firearms such as repeating rifles, for the common type of cleaners cannot be introduced in the barrel at the breech of such firearms, without taking the firearms apart. My cleaner overcomes these difficulties, for, as it has a weighted member constructed of sections articulated together, it may be readily introduced in the barrel at the breech, through the ejector slot, however short the ejector slot may be. This makes it unnecessary to take the rifle apart to clean the barrel from the breech. Then the weighted member is introduced in the barrel it will travel through the barrel by gravit-y, when Athe firearm is held with the muzzle down,

the cleaner is constructed it may be carried in the pocket, and may be used quickly in the field.

By referring to the drawings it will be' seen that the cleaner has a weighted member 5, constructed of sections 6, the sect-ions 6 being articulated together byA means of The forward'section 6a of the weighted' member 5 is pointed at 12, sothat it may more readily follow the rifling. The sec.- tion 6b of the weighted member 5 has a longitudinal slot 13, in which is disposed the end 14 of a cord l5, this end 14 of the cord extending to the transverse slot 1G in the section 6* from which it may be drawn so that the knot 17 may be made in the end 11 of the cord 15. When this knot 17 has been made it will be found that the cord will be secured to the section 6b. 18 of the cord 15 is disposed through a longitudinal slot 19 in a member 20, and is withdrawn from the member 2O through a transverse slot 21 therein, so that the knot 22 may be made for securing 'the end 1S of the cord 15 to the 'member 20. This member 20 has a transverse slot 23, 'with enlarged end portions 24. The slot 23 with the enlarged end portions 24 is provided for receiving the cleaner member 25, which is preferably a piece of cloth.

In using the invention, the weighted member 5 is introduced in the barrel of the rifle G, through the ejector ,slot- 10. one section at a time, and when all the sections are in the barrel, the ritie is disposed with the 'muzzle of the barrel downward, so that the weight of the member 5 will cause it to travel through the barrel carrying with it the cord 15. Wlhen the weighted member has reached the muzzle of the rifle, it may be drawn therefrom, and the cord 15 may l be pulled through the barrel, to carry with it the cleaner member 25.
