Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, FRED VASGER, a citizen of the United States, residin at Phila-' delphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Quick-Attaching Curtain-Poles and Shade-Rollers, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in quick attaching curtain poles and shade rollers, and has for its object to provide an exceedingly simple and effective device of this description, which may be readily attached to a door or win- (low-frame, without the use of brackets, nails or screws, and may be as readily detached when it is desired to change its location.

With these ends in view this invention consists in the details of construction, and combination of elements hereinafter set forth, and then specifically designated by the claim.

In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains may understand how to make and use the same, I will describe its construction in detail, referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this application, in which Figure 1 is a view of a portion of a window showing my improvement secured within the window.

Fig. 4 is a central longitudinal section of the central portion of the pole, showing the manner of adjusting the length thereof.

In carrying out my invention as here embodied, in Figs. 1 to 6, inclusive, 1 represents a curtain pole, which is made in two main sections 2 and 3, and an extension section 4, these sections being secured together by a metal rod 5 fitted into suitable holes formed in said sections as clearly shown in Fig. 4. By this arrangement, when it is desired to lengthen or shorten the pole, the section 4 is removed and another substituted therefor of different length.

6 represents a ferrule, which is secured upon one end of the pole in any convenient manner, here shown as by a screw 7, and in this ferrule is fitted to slide a plug 8, having a shank 9, which passes through the keeper 10, the latter being secured within the hole by the screw 11.

12 represents a spring coiled around the shank 9, and interposed between the plug 8 and keeper 10, so as to give said plug a tendency to move outward, and this outward movement is limited by the inner end of the shank being headed up as indicated at 13, so as to prevent its passage through the keeper.

The opposite end of the pole is also provided with a ferrule 14, in which is tightly fitted the plug 15, and in both the plugs 8 and 15 are set the cushion blocks 16 and 17 respectively, preferably of rubber.

To apply the pole to a window or door frame, it is only necessary to bring the cushion block 16 in contact with the inner surface of one side of the frame, and exert sufficient pressure lengthwise upon the pole to compress the spring 12 to permit the cushion block 17 to pass into the frame upon the opposite side of said frame and bear against the corresponding surface. The pressure exerted by the spring will thereafter hold the pole in position, and yet when it is desired to alter its position, or remove it from the window, this may be readily accomplished by again exerting sufiicient force against the pole to compress the spring 12.

It is to be understood that two identical main sections, such as the one designated by the numeral 2, can be used together so that an adjustment can be obtained at both ends and said sections can revolve upon the plugs 8 and shanks 9. This will permit the rolling of the curtain upon the roller either by hand or by any suitable and well known spring mechanism.

Of course I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction as herein shown, as these may be varied within the limits-of the appended claim without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful is- A device of the character described including a section having at one end a central bore of different diameters, a keeper having a hole therethrough, secured in the larger portion of said bore with the hole alining the shank andengaging the keeper and plug with the smaller portion of said bore, ashank for normally forcing the latter away from 10 passing through the hole in the keeper and the keeper, as shown and for the purpose projecting into the smaller portion of said stated.
