To all 20 from it may concern Be it known that I, Cmrrono DALE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wabash, in the county of ll abash and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful improvements in SilO-SiZHVQS, of which the following a specifi ation.
This invention has reference to improvements in the construction of silos.
In carrying out the invention it is my purpose to construct a silo of concrete slabs having interengaging ends and edges, the said slabs being each reinforced by vertically disposed members and being provided with means embedded therein and arranged transversely thereof whereby the meeting ends of the slabs may be adjustablyconnected.
It is also my purpose to construct a silo of interengaging concrete slabs which are suitably reinforced and which have embedded therein transversely arranged rods, the ends of which terminate in angle eyes that are arranged in depressions in the said slabs, the eyes of the rods of the respective slabs registering, when the slabs are associated, and receiving therethrough bolt members provided with adjusting nuts whereby a proper tension may tend to bring the said slabs into tight frictional engagement, and when the nuts and bolts are so connected the pockets in the said slabs are filled with a plastic substance, which so engages with the nuts and bolts as to prevent the accidental turning thereof. In adition to this the contacting ends and edges of the slabs provide channels therebetween into which an adhesive substance is interposed, so that when all of the slabs are associated a unitary substantially solid body is provided.
It is a further object of the invention to produce a silo constructed of slabs which may be easily associated in an expeditious manner by unskilled laborers, which shall be cheap in construction, but strong and thoroughly eflicient for the purpose devised.
The foregoing objects, and others which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, may be accomplished by construction and combination of elements such as is illustrated by the accompanying drawings, it being understood, however, that the nature of the invention is such that the same is susceptible to changes in size, proportion, etc, such changes, however, falling within the scope of What is claimed.

As disclosed by the drawings, the silo 10 is made up of a plurality of concrete slabs 11. Certain of the end slabs, that is, the slabs at the top and bottom of the silo are of a less length than the remaining slabs so that the horizontal joints between the contacting edges of the slabs will be broken throughout. All of the slabs, however, are of a similar construction but the shorter slabs are provided, preferably, with only a single transverse reinforcing rod that also serves as a means for connecting the slabs, while the longer slabs are provided with two of said bars. Each of the slabs is reinforced by longitudinally extending members 12, which may be in the nature of wooden or metallic bars, the said bars being embedded a suitable distance inward of the ends of the said slabs. Embedded in each of the slabs 11 are transverse rods 13. These rods have their ends terminating adjacent to the ends of the respective slabs and the said ends of the rods arerounded angularly upon themselves to provide eyes 14. The slabs, at the portions thereof in which the eyes 1d are arranged, are depressed, in the course of construction, to provide what may be termed pockets 15, the pockets of the respective slabs being alined when the silo is being constructed, which, of course, brings the eye members of the respective slabs also in alinement. Through the alining eyes of the rods of the adjacent slabs are passed the shanks 16 of headed bolts 17, the said bolts being engaged by nuts 18 which contact with one of the eyes 14 to compress the abutting edges of the slabs against each other. When the nuts have been screwed on the bolts the pockets 15 are filled with a plastic substance as indicated by the numerals 19.
The abutting edges of each of the slabs are provided with oppositely disposed comparatively deep substantially V-shaped depressions 20, and one of the edges of each of the slabs, outward of one of the depressions 20 is provided with a smaller substantially V-shaped depression 21. The opposite edgev of each of the slabs, in a line with the last mentioned depression 21 is. formed with a substantially V-shaped tongue 22, and the tongue 22 of one of the slabs is designed to be received in the depression or groove 21 of the abutting slab. The depressions or channels 20 of the abutting slabs are alined and a plastic adhesive substance 23 is poured in the channel thus provided. If desired, the upper and lower edges of the slabs may be formed with depressions 24 that aline with the depressions 20 and the plastic substance 23 will enter the channels provided by the alining depressions 24;, so that all of the slabs will be cemented together and thus produce a unitary structure when the silo is erected.
Having thus described the invention, What is claimed as new, is a A silo constructed of plastic slabs having longitudinal reinforcements therein, said slabs having their abut-ting edges provided with depressions forming channels, each of the slabs, upon one of its edges having a longitudinal groove and on its other edge a tongue designed to be received in the groove of the abutting slab, transverse rods embedded in the slabs, said slabs having pockets at the ends of the rods and the said rods alining when the slabs are brought edge to edge, and each includingv an engaging element, adjustable means comprising threaded devices connecting the engaging elements and producing intimate contact between the abutting edges of the slabs, and a plastic filling in said channels and pockets, and embedding the ends or" the rods and threaded means, maintaining the aforesaid intimate contact between the slabs.
