PATENT OFFICE.

TOY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 1, 1921.
Application flied Kay 8, 1820. Serial No. 379,958.
object of theinvention is to provide a wheel,
adapted to be driven by the wind and two figures, representing men, operatlng as a cross cut saw and means for reclprocatmg the saw and causing the figures. to bend by the rotation of said wheel.
Another object of the invention is to so pivot the device on an upright or the llke so that the part carrying the figures and sawwill act as a vane for keeping the wheel in the wind.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and. in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and s ecifically pointed out in the appended c aims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompany ng drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and m which Figure 1 is a side new of the device.
Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the vane art. p Figs. 4 and 5 are enlarged views showing the means for slidingly supporting the saw.
In these drawings 1 represents a platform which is pivoted to the supporting 2 by the in 3, said pin being coated a jacent one an of the platform This end of the platform carries the bearing blocks 4 in which the shaft 5 is mounted. The wind wheel 6 is connected with the outer end of the shaft while the inner end of the shaft carries the bevel gear 7. A bracket 8 is connected with one of the blocks 4 and this bracket supports the crankshaft 9 which passes through an openin in the platform and has its crank arrange below said platform. The upper end of this shaft cames the bevel gear 10 which meshes with the gear 7'. A pair of fifiires 11, representing men are carried by t e platform, the arms an legs of the figures being pivoted to the bodies thereof. The arms of said fi res are ivoted to the handles 12 of a cr d s cut savi 13 WhlCh 1s shdably supported on the platform, between the figures, by means of the upri ht pleces 14, on each side of the platform whlch are connected together by the pins 15, said pins passlng through the slot 16 in the'saw. A slot 17 is formed in the platform under the saw 13 and an L-shaped rod has one limb passmg through said slot and formed with the saw. The other limb passes through the guides 19supported from the platform and this llmb is connected with the crank by the link 20. I
It will thus be seen that the rotation of the wind wheel will cause the crank shaft to revolve and thus reciprocate the rod 18 and as the vertical part of this rod is connected with the saw, said saw will be reciprocated and this movement of the saw will cause the figures to alternately bend and assume an upright position as if they were actuating the saw. it will also be seen that said figures and saw will be acted upon by the wind so as to make this part-of the device act as a vane to keep the wheel in the wind.
The device can be used as a to to amuse a child by operating the wheel y hand to actuate the figures or the device may be used as a wind vane or as an ornament for an automobile or other vehicle.
It is thought from the foregoin descriptlon that the advantages and nove features of my invention will be readily apparent.
K desire it to be understood that I may. make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall withi the scope of the appended claims.
What 1 claim is:-
1. A device of the class described compris' a platform, an upri ht, means for pivota ly connecting a part c the platform, adjacent one end t ereof, to the upright, a shaft rotatably carried by the latform, a wind wheel on said shaft, a cran shaft carried by the platform geared to the first mentioned shaft, a saw shdably supported upon the platform, means for connectin the saw to the crank shaft so that the rotation of the shaft will reciprocate the saw and a air of figures, representin men, supporte from the platform and vin their arms and legs pivotally connected with the trunks and the arms pivotally connected with the handles of the saw.
2. A device of the class flesoribecl comptismoving the figures by the rotation of the ing a platform, an upright on which the Wind whee], saio'l Wheel being arranged at platform is pivotally supported, a shaft one end of the platform and the figures at m journaled on the platform, a Wind Wheel conthe other eni so that said figures will act as nee-ted with one end of the shaft, figures sup- :1 vane for keeping the Wheel in the Wind. ported on the platform and representing In testimony whereof I afiix signature. men in the act of sewing and means for E. ECEGENLIN.
