IMPROVEMENT IN EARTH-CLOSETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 13?,0l3,'dated Mar. h 18, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN L. MACK, of Essex, in the county of Middlesex and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Earth-Closet and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawing constit'utes part of this specification, and represents a vertical central section.
This invention relates to an improvement in ca rth-closets; and it consists in combining with the sliding seat a scoop, which, as the seat is drawn out, enters the earth-chamber and receives thereon the requisite quantity of earth, and when the seat is thrown back the scoop discharges the earth into the seat.
A is the seat constructed in the usual manner and within a case, B, and so as to be drawn out for use, as denoted in broken lines. Above the seat, at the front, is formed a chamber, C, within which the earth for use is placed. Above the seat a lever, D, is pivoted, as at 01, its outer end in connection with the seat, as at As the seat is-drawn out the lever is drawn Q forward with it, carrying the scoop into the chamber C, at the bottom, as denoted in bro ken lines, the scoop there receiving the requisite quantity of earth, and when the seat is again thrown back the scoop is also thrown back, taking with it the earth and discharging it through the opening in the seat, as shown in the drawing. As the scoop is in direct connection with the seat it is always directly over the opening, so that the discharge of the earth directly into the seat is insured.
I claim as my invention- In combination with the seat A, case B, and earth-chamber C, the scoop E, arranged upon a lever or levers D, the said lever in connection with the case and seat, and constructed and arranged to operate substantially as set forth.
