Description

Edn ardllinowles INVENTOR ATI'ORNEY Patented Mar. 1', 1921.
EDWARD I4. KNOWLES, OF ALLIANCE, OHIO.
HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 17, 1920. Serial No. 382,092.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD L. KNOWLES, a'citizen of the United States, residing'at Alliance, in the county of Stark and State of'Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Holders, of which the following is a specification. p
The present invention has reference to a vase holder for cemetery use.
The object is to produce a simple, cheap and effective device of this character whereby a vase may be securely gripped and supported, and readily removed when occasion requires. I
A further object is to construct from strands of wire a central post or standard that is designed to be forced into the earth that has at its outer end oppositely disposed spring jaws designed to clamp therebetween a vase.
The foregoing objects, and others which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, may be accomplished by a simple construction, combination and arrangement of parts, such as 1s disclosedby the drawing.
The drawing illustrates a perspectlve view of the improvement.
In carrying out myinvention, I employ two strands of spring wire. These strands are rounded outwardly, at the center thereof ments above described comprise the jaw portions of the device, and by reference to the drawing it willbe seen that the aws are reversely arranged. It will also be noted that the elements 4 of the jaw member are dlrected toward each other, and the strands Patented Mar. 1, 1921;
constituting thesame are then extended angularly'in contacting relation-to provide the upper spaced portions 5 of the stem 6. 'Thestrandsconstituting the spaced members 5 are extended at an inclination toward each other, as at 7 and each of the double strands ,is brought into contactingengagement and further extended to provide the stem' 6.
The-stem 6 is forced intothe ground. The
device, "being constructed of spring wire, allows the aws to be readily spread away from each other so as to recelve a vase therethese portions provide a rest for the bottom of the vase. However, when a conical vase is employed the pointed end thereof may be received between the portions 5 of the device, and it is thought that the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the drawing willfully set forth the simplicity and advantages of the device to those skilled in the art to which such inventions relate.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim, is I v A vase holder comprising opposed spring jaws, each having its outer end formedwith a rounded lip from which extend parallel side arms that are bent angularly in an outward direction and from thence extended inwardly and at their points of contacts are" extended in parallelism with each other and bent upon themselves to provide a straight stem.
In testimony whereof I'aflix my signature.
, EDWARD" L. KNOWLES.
